Keep in mind that almost all blue leds require a higher voltage.

It was (for me) not so simple as Eric told us :D

Took out the unit like Carbonio describes, was not too difficult.

But my cocern was: how to get off all leds (and install later the new leds) without burning the board. It is all SO small ...

Found a little specialist in the neighborhood who has all these small tools and big skills ... and liked to help me.

He was busy for about 1 hour in total, taking the leds off, finding out that there are 4 contacts per led.

The leds we found (via Eric) have not 4 cotacts but two wide ones ... one plus, one ground. And that the new leds need 4-5 volt.

He found out that there are 2 of the 4 not connected to any circuit .... so he connected the leds to the 2 contacts.

And it works ! Exactly as I wanted it.

If anybody wants us to make this upgrade for you (any colour you want) ... mail me :D

Very nice Mel! How do you like the color difference. Also, a video of you shifting through the gears and seeing the new LED's would be great!

After a very busy month of November, I should have a bit more time now...
I have a spare LED display (ref. 214236) I can modify to the color pattern one wants and sell , or work on an exchange basis.
PM me for details if interested.

Haha! Very cool! There was a thread where people were wanting to do this but no one knew how! Congrats
Ferrari is now using a new wheel LED which has 7 leds, the first 5 are red and the last 2 blue ; emulating their F1 steering wheel lights

I would love to buy a unit already done with 3 red LEDs and the final 2 in blue. If any of you (eric, mel?) can sell it to me already made please let me know what your price would be. Best regards

I have LED's on my 488 because they looked neat and I needed them for resale. In daily driving they are useless. Light them all up in first gear and noise will outrun traction. Light them all up in second gear and you'll lose your license if caught (488). I dare you to light a bulb in third off track. I see more light action on downshifts than up-shifts and at night they are blindingly bright. On the track, I'm sure they are a pleasure and an absolute requirement.

Yes Simon, and indeed great looking instead of the boring 5 red leds imo !

That little guy Ray in The Netherlands makes your leds exactly to your wish !

If info is needed I can help you to his mailadres.

    Hi All,

We've been selling the standard LED units for a few years. Our install guide was referenced on the first page of this thread. Most people replace them due to a cracked or worn plastic lens. Of course Ferrari only sells the lens with the LED. I think only one person has replaced one due to an actual LED issue.

When Simon (sbenus) asked us to send an LED over to Ray-Technics, we thought it was a really cool mod that would make replacing the expensive LED unit due to a bad lens bearable. At least a tiny bit more bearable!

So, thanks to the introduction by Simon, MAcarbon will begin stocking the custom LEDs made by Ray-Technics. That way we can have the parts in stock with (hopefully) no waiting for the customer. Ray-Technics benefits by just concentrating on making them rather than having to do sales, support and marketing. Although a few people on this thread seem to have made an extra unit or two that they then sell, it doesn't feel like anyone has really made an effort to market it. Hopefully I'm not stepping on anyones toes!

We plan to send over our first batch to Ray tomorrow.

I am looking for some feedback on which version to stock. I'm thinking that the F1 style of RED RED RED BLUE BLUE would be the most popular. But one customer we are doing an interior project with right now wants GGGYR. But I think most people would want what Vettel uses?

For the moment, we will be modifying brand new units. We're looking at doing an exchange program using "used" LEDs but my gut tells me that many people will want a new lens to go with their new LED. And to get a new lens, as mentioned before, you have to get the new unit! But in the future, we may offer an exchange program like we do for many of our carbon parts.

So if you have an opinion on the patterns you think worked best, please let me know.

One more note... the California uses a different LED unit than all other Ferraris. We may support the Cali but I need to figure out how to take it part since its a one-piece sealed unit. You can see one Cali LED in the attached pic.

Rosso, thanks for the feedback. Glad it confirms what I was thinking.

For pricing, we always refer people to the site as once its committed to a page on a forum, its lives forever., I think I ran a special in 2006 on Rennlist for Porsche door sills and I still get calls asking for that price! However, as of today, we sell the LED unit for $365. USA retail is $500 or so. Pricing for the LED mod is close to being finalized. The cost will be about the same as if you pulled yours out and then waited two weeks for it to come back. And you won't have your Ferrari undrivable for a period either!

I just got a call from a customer who is going to send in his "old" LED unit. We ahve one here at the shop so we'll wind up with 2 or 3 we can offer on an exchange basis as well. That way you don't have to pay the $365 on top of the customization fee.
