For clarity, adding exhausts to the turbos wont bring back the lovely sound of the 458, at all.
Sound IS subjective - 488 sounds fantastic as does 458! A 488 owner could sell up and buy a 458 anytime and pocket some change, yet how often has that happened whereas countless have sold 458 for 488. Obob has offered OP the best suggestion in this entire discussion IMHO! Not forgetting 458 is going to have a very hard time competing against his .2tts...
The 458 can’t compete now of course but that’s not the point. 488 hasn’t been loved universally like the 458 was, and depreciation will be bigger on the 488 this late in cycle, if that matters. But the 488 is a monster of a ferrari. I’d add a 720s personally for outright track and carving and have a 458 for glorious sound and cruising.
Save the cash and get a 458. Wonder if you might also get a deal on a low mileage 488 soon as well. Also would think guys would end up selling their current 488 once the Pista comes out. That and all the Lusso's that people seem to be acquiring in order to get allocations for a Pista.
The 488 is better in nearly EVERY category. Tons faster, better looking, and tons more downforce. Fastest of the bunch.
I doubt the release of the Pista would force volumes of 488s to become available. For most intents and purposes, the Pista is largely sold out.
Surely best to go and drive a 488 to work out which you prefer. I own a 458, but I'd be very surprised if the 488 isn't better to drive and faster (it is the newer model after all). Looks wise I dont have a strong view either way. Sound; 458 wins. I think the 458 will fare better in respect of depreciation. Honestly, for me it was financial; I'd rather have a 458 (which is far faster than I will ever need/use) and keep the difference. If money were irrelevant I'd have probably bought a 488 (I certainly would have tested one first though). I came from a Porsche turbo. For me they aren't comparable. The Porsche is a very fast car. The Ferrari is a supercar in every way and driving it is an event. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Pista wont make a jot of difference to 488gtb values in my view, too few pista's to have any impact. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I picked up my new 488 GTB last week. I have driven the 458 a lot and its a fantastic car, but the 488 is just in a different league. I actually love the noise of the turbos. For me the 488 is a much better looking car too.
I think the Pista as a going to bring down the prices of the 488 as well. There are some that currently have a 488 that will get rid of it to make room for their Pista Lusso combo lol
Have started to see this happening out here now with unprecedented levels of used 488's for sale - no doubt a golden opportunity for the used buyer to squeeze a better deal than normal. Bargains will dry up once availability returns to usual levels as what usually happens. The current numbers could only be due to those liquidating to make room for their Pista.
The 911 is a phenomenal car. I absolutely love to drive it. It's also convertible. The F is just a different animal. The F is driven just to drive. No destination, you just drive. The P is used to take my daughter to school or go to the bank etc. A real daily driver that I never get tired of driving.
Yep the 991tts is a formidable machine in any company - master of all duties and dare I say possibly quicker than 488 through a mountain pass, yet just can't match the 488 for presence and overall sensation. The 488 has some vulnerabilities where the P inspires a level of confidence the F is unable to match in certain areas. Great to own both if you can swing it, that way you can pick and choose the best tool for each occasion. PS. Best of luck with your decision OP - you won't go wrong either way! Seriously doubt this. There aren't enough Pistas to make a difference on 488 markets. Plus most are sold. The car is largely unavailable to the typical 488 prospector.
I disagree they will make between 2000 and 3000 of these cars and its enough to cause a slight shift... he'll every time a similar model comes out it usually causes a shift in the model before it. Not to mention the current depreciation the 488 is currently facing due to the market being saturated with so many wonderful cars at the moment. Not to mention the 488 replacement in the horizon. Just the facts my man!
I am in a similair position - I have a 991.2 GTS Cabriolet as my DD, and just bought a 488 GTB as my "supercar". It replaced a 991 GT3RS. I could not be happier with my decision Zinger I am also about to get valveless Novitec. This is my first Ferrari and I think the first of many in the future. While I loved my RS, the power and torque is on another level, especially for road driving. It also is making me appreciate the GTS even more.
What you say is largely correct with Pista volumes being unable to satisfy demand however, I am personally aware of certain current 488 owners who are selling to make way for their Pista. I will be one of them once I get a clear picture of exactly when I can get one. Granted we are not talking huge numbers on Pista availability but unfortunately it will still create a spike in numbers of 488's for sale - also create an environment for more price negotiation than usual. Added to that we have the next model appearing in a year or so, and there will always be 488 owners who will seek to unload their cars prior to their next model shift in a bid to avoid depreciation. The ideal time to have sold a 488 would have been in the period where allocation was tight, and wait times long, but unfortunately that situation appears to be over now.
We're in a similar situation. While I've had some older Ferraris, the 488 is my first new one. I also have a 991.2 GT3 manual. Two completely different cars. I'm glad to hear the 488 gave you plenty of satisfaction with it replacing your GT3RS.
