Do we think the video recently revealed on Fchat showing test car in full electric mode prior to petrol engine kicking in is the testbed for the new power unit ?

The car in the video is a 488 with Kers, literally.

Why not call the replacement the 408 for the 8 cylinder versiona with a nice round 4.0 litre displacement...

I don't believe we got the wild design Portofino that LdM originally envisioned. Somebody chickened out after LdM left the building...

There is yet hope for a jaw dropping GTB replacement design if Flavio is let off the leash!

Amazing machine with 4wd, aluminium body etc. Unfortunately they only made 2.

Jokes apart, I agree with you - I wish they went a bit more wild with their imagination.

I think a hybrid using a smaller disc placement V8 with twin turbo could be the next power train platform for the replacement of the 488. Perhaps the hybrid will be used to power an electric turbo. An electric turbo would have greater flexibility at low revs and would have less of an effect on the exhaust gas flow which would result in a more pure NA sound.

I don’t recall if the LaFerrari hybrid system has electrical motors driving the front wheels. I doubt that the Ferrari would make the 488 replacement a four wheel drive.

    Why?[/QUOTE]

Because 4wd lacks the feel of a sports car and adds weight. Weight is the enemy!!!!! The car should weigh 2,800 pounds in GTB format but it unfortunately won't.
For those who will point to the 4wd Porsche 911 that car once was under 2,400 pounds before it got heavy to...

Ferrari has recently patented an electric turbo charging system. It provides some new innovations.
I’d like to learn more about it.

So no. I’m not suggesting that Ferrari is going to use old fashioned supercharging.

It may have a 48 volt electrical system which seems to be the new trend out there - It's a necessity in order to spin those Turbo's
Also I really believe they will launch a V6 Turbo Hybrid followed a year or so later with a V8 turbo Hybrid
I also see a possibility of awd option glass roof option and much more elaborate infotainment system - just my 2 cents worth

A 48 volt system has been a long time coming!

And I like the idea of a glass roof with Electrochromic adjustability. I recall a French glassmaker has produced such a product. Saint Gobain n’est pas?

2400 pounds is the Euro F40 weight. To find actual Ferrari 488 weight you have to add 1000 pounds.

Honda showed how to make a 4WD hybrid supercar without too much weight and enhancing the drivability too

    Ciao

not quite electrochromic in the FF/Lusso but you are correct Saint Gobain also owns SageGlass, would be cool in a car. All this at a friendly Ferrari option price too:D

Ferrari tried the electrochromic glass roof in the 2005 SuperAmerica. It didn't work too well due to delamination with time. Surely they have improved the quality of the roofs since 2005.
