Every sport is always going to cater to the polarizing super star. Yes, that's HAM. It's also Tiger Woods. It's also Lebron James. It's also Tom Brady. etc. etc.

Sounds like a no-brainer if NBC told Buxton to cover Lewis. Let's see, a guy who was already a 3 time world champion, the only black guy in the sport, why wouldn't he be promoted?

While I don't like Lewis Hamilton (since he doesn't drive for Ferrari), I can see why he's important to the sport. With four time champs (VET and HAM) and other former champs (ALO and RAI), the sport needs heroes to build fans. Probably every sport has fans of individuals and fans of teams, so F1 seems to have it all with 10 teams, 20 drivers, 4 former champs, several possible future champs (Max and others). F1 is a business, like it or not.

I hadn't heard that, but I've long suspected it to be the case. They pretty obviously favored him, esp Hobbs (but he has a reason).

What I meant above was that NBC had no geographical reason to root for Lewis as he's not American (even if he seems to want desperately to be American).

I get all of that. What I don;t get is when people critique Sky for doing the same thing NBC was already doing.

Well, looks like ESPN has adopted the motto “If at first you don’t succeed, give up.”

At least as far as pre-race coverage goes. Following their sad attempt to simply pick up and air an existing feed from Melbourne, we get nothing for Bahrain.

Has anyone heard whether we’re going to see any F2 coverage in the US this year?

The F2 website lists "TBA" for broadcasts in the US: http://www.fiaformula2.com/Guide-to/The-2018-TV-Broadcasters/

The first race is this weekend in Bahrain but there are no listings on ESPN at this time that I could find.

I think the announcements about F1 OTT broadcasts said that they would cover F2 too, but we're still waiting.

ESPN has once again failed by denying us the privilege to view Bahrain practice live, or even "close" to live. Instead of the opportunity to view F1 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they decided to squeeze practice coverage right before qualifying on Saturday.

Looks like live P3 coverage, but no P1 or P2. And no pre or post coverage of anything.

I’m watching P1 on demand. I am watching ESPN3 on Sling via a Roku device. It looks like P2 is also available...as is some content from Australia as well as F2 content. I hope this continues, but I fear it will disappear when FOM gets their online content sorted out.

I've figured it out,... the decision maker's at Liberty have shorted the stock and are purposely trying to destroy F1.

There doesn't appear to be any easy solution. There's no waving a magic wand and having last year's crew return. And to think the NBCSN guys did their work remotely, with the exception of Buxton and it was soooooooo much better.

Better in that NBC actually broadcast it.

WTF is liberty thinking allowing ESPN NOT TO BROADCAST the product. It's assinine.

It's such an easy fix,... don't broadcast a rerun of a roundtable discussion of the iowa state highschool badminton quarterfinals... Broadcast F1.

Credit where credit due,... ESPN did a great job with Quali programming today. No commercials. Much improved.

Today, my recording ended coverage of qualifying before the end of Q3. I don’t know if it’s an ESPN problem or Xfinity issue, but it’s really annoying!

Honest question, why not always extend all recordings past their expected stop time?

I dont get not doing that.

BTW, this coverage sucks. These guys have zero personality.

Anything live I add an extra hour, for exactly that reason.

No commercial breaks in Quali was great. Looooooong commercial breaks in P3 though. But given the choice, I’ll take uninterrupted Quali any day.

The play-by-play guy is OK. The rest would be better off just plain shutting their collective pie-hole half the time.

Well, having a bunch of people with long histories in F1 leads to a bunch of entrenched opinions.

On a side note, with DiResta, shouldn’t he be shutting his haggis-hole? I had forgotten how thick his accent was.

Does anybody know if the race will be without commercials? Maybe ESPN actually listened to all the complaints about Australia coverage.
