The prior owner of my '86 328 bought a set of these coolant hoses. Between the two of us, all but 3 of the hoses have been installed. I am in the middle of some work and figured it would be a good time to knock these out if they are in the area where I am working. My only problem is that I don't know where they go. Can anyone shed some light on what coolant hoses these are?

Can't say for sure but the expansion tank has two hoses - larger lower one to the head and upper smaller one to coolant crossover manifold under the plenum. That's a likely culprit because I think you have to remove the plenum to access it. If I were going to leave an outrageously expensive hose uninstalled that would probably be the one.

Two go to the coolant expansion tank; one is supplied to splice into the long hose through the door sill that connects to the driver side of the motor and carries coolant to the heat exchanger system. I preferred to replace the entire long hose rather than just replace the last 18" off the block, so I didn't use the third.

Can't really remember the measurements, but I re-plumbed the front end of my car (1986 GTS). Under the dash / front bonnet. If it's none of these, I don't have any idea...

    1. Short runs between heat valves and the T fitting at the end of the run that comes from the engine via the drivers rocker channel & up through near the brake booster. ... Think it was the 5/8 size...
    2. Probably too short, but could they be the ones deep under the dash that come from the heater cores and meet at a T fitting in the middle of dash.? These were originally 12MM size. Note: I eventually found some 12MM coolant hose from Choline...

Note: If you are messing around the heater cores, Rutlands sells the 180 degree elbow hose between heater core and heater valve, but Im sure the Helms kits has that parts too...

Two of the hoses seem to work attached to the expansion tank. As was said earlier, one connects under the plenum and the other tees into one of the larger coolant hard pipes on the drivers side. The one under the plenum can be replaced with the plenum in place. I have the engine cover off, so that helps. When reinstalling, the hose clamp can be positioned so you can reach it from the rear. Positioned that way, it can be tightened once the engine cover is back on. Same can be done with the two short hoses connected to the thermostat.

I bought the same kit for the 308, which is substantially the same set, had same question about the third misc hose, called Dave Helms at SRI and got the answer from the horse's mouth. See post #3; that wasn't just conjecture.
