New generation NSX or 430 Scud ?

Which would you choose ?


Why ?

 

I guess depends on how much one wants (is able) to spend: $150 vs $200+

 

Money is no object.

Seriously both can be had for approx the same if one searches and is patient enough.
But lets just say the 430 Scud is 20K additional.

 

Ask yourself which one will be worth more in 10 years and then remind yourself that the NSX is now made to order bc they couldn't give them away. They had to do insane lease specials to get rid of inventory bc nobody wanted them. $0 down $1200/mo to rid themselves of inventory...

 

From what I hear, the NSX is not selling well.

I don’t think the NSX and scud compare well.
An R8 would be more appropriate a comparison to an NSX....something more refined, daily driver, less of a track oriented car.

To answer your question, I’d pick the Scud in a heartbeat.

 

A word of caution,

the NSX is very low, has no factory lift option (iLift provides an aftermarket, this new in the past few months) and the shock towers do not have adjustable spring perches, it is very easy to damage the NSX because it sits too low and even if you put in adjustable shocks, the car's computers would sense if the car is riding too high and shutdown the front electric motors....(this according to the factory rep I queried last year)

I also had other issues (such as piping 'engine noise' through the radio speakers to help you pretend it is something more fierce than it is), but that's the big one

as for a 430, I'm sure it is a better choice, but, depends on what you are looking for, those are two completely different cars

NSX is quite the car. Crazy fast, well built and very usable as a daily.

The scud is an event.

To me the 430 is a better looking car but it's getting old enough that it's going to be a hobby to own one. FI, water/oil pump, manifolds can be issues and all require a good technician, money and patience.
The NSX should be much more stable.

The only negative to buying the scud in my opinion is service and parts. An NSX is probably one of the most reliable sports cars there is and a scud is probably one of the most unreliable.

Unreliable, I have had mine for seven years and driven 12,000 miles and its been totally reliable.

 

OK. One of the highest priced to maintain parts and labour wise. I'd way rather drive a scud but I'd way rather pay the maintenance costs of a new NSX.

 

you 'pay' one way or the other.

if you buy a scud today, you will end up with maintenance costs, but you will also not likely lose any equity.
whereas with the nsx you will not have much maintenance cost, but you will lose half the value in equity within 3 years.

 

I'm not excited by this choice. If it was NSX or 430 manual I would take the 430. The Scud is a bit extreme for the street to my personal taste.

For me, that’s what makes it so awesome!
.....but not for a daily driver obviously. And expect to get/ earn a lot of speeding tickets
But I’m someone who wants a Ferrari to always be an event. That’s why I dont give most of the front engine models a second look.

 

NSX. I like the Scud, but imo it has the unfortunate position between the greatness of the CS and Speciale so it doesn't do much for me. If it was CS vs NSX, I'd go CS.

 

the cs is not a daily. i tried it. makes the scud feel like a rolls.

 

I didn't realize it was a question about a daily driver. In that case, I rather get a loaded Land Rover than any of those every 3 years on lease. lol

I found this killer deal on a new NSX with full warranty. 139K. Matches my black Gen1 NSX.
Speced almost as I would have ordered it for 41k off the 180K sticker;

I was looking at two Scuds but both were sold. One at 170 and the other at 150. The 150K one had a lemon title.
