Two images of UK racing (sort of) Mangustas from the late 1970s / early 1980s. The less heavily modded car at Donington, and the other at a DTOC meeting at Mallory Park. John www.stradabiz.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really like the car on the bottom. The period wheels and tires fit the wheel wells very nicely! I think the ducktail spoiler works too.
Just looking at the photos on Bonham's site it seems to me that this car has numerous issues that would have a negative impact on price. I'd have to say it was REALLY well sold.
This is our car, chassis 998 - in beautiful condition, selling at Retromobile February 7th: https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/PA18/Paris/lots/r0065-1972-de-tomaso-mangusta-by-ghia/623486
Was the gold, Mangusta prototipo taken on a publicity lap at the 1967 GP of Monaco by Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly? If so, is there any photographic record of it? The only car I've found evidence of is the Lamborghini Marzal concept.
Interesting! I have researched quite a bit of De Tomaso history and I have never heard this. I would wager the story is untrue, although it certainly would be cool if it were true. Allegedly the goose prototype was only a roller at first.
prototype goose later was certainly a runner. i saw it while i was at the factory back in the 90's. I cant remember if it ever ran at monaco but it would surprise me if it did. they had all sorts of prototypes running parade laps at monaco back in the day. marazal ran of course but i recall others include the prototype bertoneurraco, LP500 countach concept, testudo, ital design boomerang concept , alfa 33 inguana etc... those were the days!
