I noticed that during spirited driving, shifts at higher rpm sounds like a wastegate. I know it’s not, but it has a similar sound.

I’m not alarmed by it (should I be?), especially after I get a few nice crackles as well. I’m just curious, mechanically speaking, what causes this?

Sounds about the same as I get and was told by the tech that it's "normal"

All 458's will make a slight chirp from the accessory drive belt slipping during full throttle shifts near red-line. Do a search and you will find other threads about the noise. It is normal and does not affect the operation of the car.

That’s very helpful, thank you. I did now find some other threads, and many said changing the accessory belt removed the noise.

It’s normal, don’t worry. My 458 started this a few months back and I came here with the same concern. There’s another thread around here somewhere with all the “mine does this too” posts. [emoji3]

FYI, changing the belt will only temporarily remove the sound. Ferrari will change it free under maintenance every two years if you mention the chirping when you bring it in for service.

Normal. Even get the same sound on my 458 challenge.

I wouldn't bother changing the belt, unless it is older than 2 years (Which is the normal replacement interval). I have experienced the noise on cars that I just changed the belt on. Regular 458's, Speciales and Challenge cars all make the noise. Ferrari doesn't consider it a problem and never came up with a fix for it. But they must have done some testing and redesign of the system, as 488's do not make the noise.

Surprising that the two engine types aren't immediately different enough even in this regard. Is the belt setup similar but just tweeked?
