Hello, this is my first post on the forum. I live in the UK and I have purchased a USA 328 GTS 44.000 miles. The car was in a large collection in the US but I don't have the relevant documents with the car as the auction house Coys have miss placed them along with the service book and letter from the last owner who had the car in a big collection for 18 years. I have contacted Ferrari North America and a couple of main dealers in California so I can find out if they can find any details of the Ferrari dealer/supplier of the car so I can contact them to see if they have any details on the car but no info comes up. The car is a 1988.
I have also contacted Italy Maranello and they have told me to speak to a main dealer and have not helped me as of yet. I have put in another request so maybe they can come up with some info on the car.
I would like to know if anyone has any ideas on how I can find out the details on my car? I had a CARFAX done and the first inspection staion was in Sacramento California so I assume the car may well have been supplied in this are to the first owner.
    The VIN: ZFFXA20A4J0074721
    Miles all correct on CARFAX.
    Thanks

Welcome here and congrats with your F328. I also own a 1988 328 GTS (Euro ABS) for almost 11 years do many things myself thanks to info available in this forum.
Of course it is important to gain as much history as possible and you will likely collect many times small parts.
Please note that there is a 328 registry (your 328 is not listed yet): http://www.328registry.com/

    Best regards, Menno

Hi, and thanks for the info on my car. I have had an email back from Maranello Italy stating, the selling dealer is Ferrari Sacramento date 2/4/1988. They are also saying that the dealer is no longer active and they have no other information regarding the vehicle or its service book. I assume now I have no chance of finding out the cars history from this dealer and getting a duplicate service book stamped? Any ideas for me please? Thanks

You can try contacting Ferrari of North America and see if they will provide any information for your VIN. Depending on who you contact, they can provide the dealer information, production date, the delivery date to the customer as well as the ship date and delivery date to the dealer. Sometimes you can also receive exterior and interior color codes as will as the engine and transmission numbers. This is all dependent on the representative that you are talking to. Some are willing to help and others not so much. You can also try researching the original dealership and see if the franchise was sold to a dealer still in business. They may have some of the service records. Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

    Call the Ferrari Market Letter.

Jim or Cathy may have some info. That company has been collecting chassis numbers forever - not just on the ones listed for sale. Tell them I sent you!

The auction house missplaced the documents? What is their reasoning for removing them from the vehicle? They know better than this and sounds like they used vehicles history information to entice perspective bidding. If it was me I would be focusing my search on the auction house, last place of known documents. Best of luck!

    Hello,
The service records, manuals, and tools where "LOST" for the vehicle I purchased at Barrett Jackson North East two years ago. When I realized how much they cost and the limited availability I made multiple complaints to BJ and they leaned on the consignor (who uses them alot). The consignor replaced them with the correct series. I was able to track down a document indicating the belt service had been done and had a local Ferrari tech confirm it.

    Good Luck,
    J

Hi all, Much appreciated replies. I have found out since last post that the Ferrari car dealer in Sacramento that closed down was owned by Miki and Mujagic who now own Prestige AutoHaus in Walnut Creek. I will call them as soon as they are open to see if they supplied the car and if they have any info still from the closed dealership. Hopefully I am onto something but as we all know the date may well have been disposed of when they closed down. I have also emailed Jim at Ferrari Market Letter as suggested by Dr Tommy Cosgrove. Will keep you all informed. Thanks

Was given a name at Ferrari North America who I was told would be able to help me but she came back with nothing I am afraid. By the way thank Tommy for that info. I might get beaten on this one. Cheers

Hi, just got this info from Jim Weed Ferrari Market Letter ( thanks Jim) This owner advertised the car in 1993. I will now see if I can find his details or he may be a member or someone may know him. Cheers

1993 offered by Tom Arra, Hinsdale, IL/USA. Red with tan leather. Two-owner CA car. 33,000 miles. All services completed, excellent throughout. Alpine cassette, some records. (FML 1808).

When I bought my 89 328 it didn’t have records.
    A couple of things.
You would be suprised how much info you can get just doing a google search on the vin.
I have managed to go from 0 records ( well 1 piece of info) to a pretty decent set off records.
From the Carfax I had and my google searches I could tell where the car had been.
I then called Ferrari dealerships around there and just asked “have you worked on this 328 with this vin” most people were very helpful and I got a good bit of the records and history on my car. From some of the forsale ads I saw it verified the mileage that I saw and fill in some gaps on services.
It takes some time but it can be done with some effort and a bit of luck.

Hi all, I managed to track down Tom Arra and spoke to him on the phone. He was advertising the car in 1993 through Ferrari Market Letter but he wasn't the owner. He worked for a dealership and was advertising on the dealerships behalf. Unfortunately he doesn't remember anything about this car of course when he has been involved in selling hundreds of Ferrari's. I have the CARFAX report and am looking for main dealers that cover the areas listed. Done the vin search as suggested on google. Its incredible that the one thing I need is the previous owners letter who had it in his collection for 18 years and that is missing.
I will call some more dealerships from the UK and see if I get lucky with some history/services. Cheers

Hi all, I believe 328 PWC member on thread has found the last owner of the car. Thanks very much 328 PWC. I have found the previous owners phone number after calling people of the same name who knew nothing about the car. I have left an answer phone message and lets hope I get a reply by email or a call and its the correct person. This persons address and previous addresses are all the places that are on the CARFAX report so it has to be him. Once I have spoken to him I will ask if he doesn't mind his name being posted. Fingers crossed its been a worth while exercise. Cheers

Hi all, I have great news . The last owner of the car who ad it 19 years as now emailed me and is going to dig out all the documents and info on the car over the weekend and email me them. If he sends any service invoices I can then get hold of the dealership he used over the 19 years and get a duplicate service book stamped. I have asked the previous owner if he minds if I post his name on this site which 328PWC sent me. Ill let you all know how I get on. You have all been very helpful and its been really appreciated.
