    Hi all,

Is it possible to buy an F50 engine from Ferrari?
If so, how much would it be worth?

    Thanks in advance!

Complete crank case on its own is £20k, no complete engines showing, but I imagine they have a few crated ones still for special customers and to rebuild any phoenix cars. There was a full used engine in Europe a while back for around £50k.

I bet a new old stock engine could be found outside of the Ferrari network as well.

    Why not ask Ferrari themselves?

I just have to ask... why?

    For an F50?
    For a project?

    Thanks for the info!
Sounds close to Enzo engine price.

The F50 motor is not the most powerful v12 for a project, the most affordable bang for your buck at the moment are those from the 599 and FF, amazing engines for the money. The 575/612 is a well engineered and still modern motor as well.

Would be interesting to compare the weight of each engine.

Tipo F130B from the F50 appears to weigh 198kg. The F140 engine from the Enzo and used in the later V12s is 225kg.

Interesting, I would have thought the weight saving would have been more in favour of the F50, then again it does have a cast iron block.

To me the F50 driving experience is as close to perfection as I have had, but if there is one aspect that would improve it, it is another 75hp. The chassis easily feels like it can cope with more. However, the added downstream weight (e.g. stronger transmission) might have precluded it.

I would be surprised if a new engine can be had today for £50k given that the factory has none (apart from the display one), and I know of at least two cars in need of a new engine.

I didn't realise the F50 had a cast iron block! wow there must be some impressive weight saving of other components to make it lighter than the later alloy block v12s like the 599. The bare alloy block from my 575 engine was just about practical to lift by myself, a cast version would be like the anchor of the QE2!

Just double checked and I made an error about the £50k engine, it was from an Enzo not an F50 sorry

It must be a pretty compact engine to still weigh less with cast iron. I know the displacement figures don't always correlate to physical engine size, but the F50 engine is 4.7L whereas the Enzo and later are 6.0 and up so I bet physically the newer V12s are larger.

I was unable to find the engine weights for the 550/575, but maybe Terry can chime in here. He probably knows the exactly weight of each 550/575's engine by s/n as it left the factory. :)

My only experience of cast versus alloy block is with the Cosworth YB. The last of the factory cast iron blocks weighed in at 55kg bare where as the later aftermarket alloy blocks are 22kg and that includes extra material to further strengthen the block.. I would assume similar weight reduction % applies for most applications though.
