Hey everyone, I need some help here. I'm doing a full restoration on my 400i this last year or so and finally i'm at the paint stage.. The car was originally a dark blue which I'm not a fan of, was thinking of white or black. What does everyone think? The interior is saddle. Thanks so much for the help..
Everyone here thinks that dark blue is one of the best ever colors on a 400i and that you should keep it that color. Everytime I see a pic of a 400 in blu scuro (likely your color?) I just think, damn that looks good. Especially compared with white or black.
I personally don't like the black on these cars but the white looks good in the flesh, but the blue scuro looks fabulous on these cars.
I would recommend staying with the original color......however, I am partial to white. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Stay with original Blue Scuro! Also best for value to be painted in original color. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Never been a real fan of blu scuro... I really prefer light colors and metallic paints (well, I agree, that does not really answer your question!!! ) Go West and bring her back to the 70’s! Gold or green would be coooool Ok maybe a bit shinny. So azzuro Hyperion is really the best one, on them! Ok ok ok, so you really want me to choose between black and white.... I would go black which to my sense makes her more classy... Oh, and don’t mind about original color. As soon as you paint it it’s not the original paint or even color any more so go where you want to!
Good day Jippijalke, Personally, I love these cars in blue... dark really brings out the lines and it looks very elegant. Mine is Blu Tourbillon which is darkish, but not as dark as Blu Scuro. That being said, I do like the gold as presented by Roger, but also Silver, Dark Grey, and even Rosso Rubino (Ruby Red). I would suggest you take a picture of your car and have someone photoshop different colors on your car's picture to see what you like. Once you decided on a color or colors, have your paint shop spray some metal plates with the color so you can see it in person before you finally commit. Have fun! Cheers, Sam
Hey guys, Thanks for the great advise!! I like it in white a lot but the darker colors hide the ugly bumpers a bit. I also have a gtc4 that is in Pozi Blue, so the reason to go with a new and different color.. I'm so confused... That green is nice too..
Mike.....Just in case you need another view..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login And yes, that is the original "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" sticker under the fuel door, ..original paint. ( I don't think I latched the door completely when I jumped out to snap pics)
haha. That sticker is not original, it was added by the RI when your car was federalized when it came into the US. That would have been required by US law, along with the addition of cats, neither of which the cars didn’t have from the factory. Still, been on there a long time for sure, but not “original”.
For me the best color for this car is "argento fer" very discreet classy and elegance. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My poor sentence above should read “neither of which the cars had from the factory.” A stray “didn’t” made its way in there.
Brian, I apologize, my intention was to show the white paint was original to the car...yes I have the paint ID label in the trunk, but even those are available for purchase. The "Unleaded Fuel Only" label seems to be the first thing that disappears when a re-paint is done, and hardly ever/never put back on, my label shows age & originality (at the time of importation) at the same time. Actually, I have only seen 1 other example fuel label on a 412 I saw years ago, and that car was at a body-shop at the time. And we all know there are more "red" Ferraris on the road compared to the numbers painted at the factory.
Grigio scuro (dark grey) would be nice, but a deep burgundy would look fabulous too with the saddle interior.
My two cents worth is ABW: Anything But White, but that is just me . White is borderline good in Florida maybe but in general the darker colors or silver look best on these cars. Do what makes you happy because that is all that matters!
I think they look best in dark colors with light interiors. They are too big to be red, in my opinion anyway, I love the Scuro and cream car posted above. I typically like white cars too and a 400 with lipstick red inside would be an attractive combination for me.
Red interior on these cars does look fantastic. I prefer them with the black dash and center console though. Some of them were made with the dash being red also. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You guys are the best!! I'm going with black. The hardest to paint an take care of too. But that it. My last black car was a 1968 365 GT which wasn't that bad to take care of, but I had to be careful in wiping it down always..
