https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-cleared-of-wrongdoing-monaco-battery-fia-1042149/ Mercedes, of course, were the ones raising the questions.
Ever since Australia, Mercedes "suspected" these rumors according to Lauda. We passed and end of story.
Ex - Ferrari man/now Mercedes technical director James Allison no less! It was a bit sad and pathetic that he/they felt it was better to spread rumours throughout the pitlane and press about their suspicions, rather than going through the proper channels and putting in a formal protest - Very childish IMO!
Too late to stop moronic headlines like this, which is all people will remember: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-5768543/Ferrari-investigated-claims-broken-F1-engine-rules.html At least they give it back to Merc a bit here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/formulaone/article-5775449/Vettels-championship-bid-track-FIA-reject-claims-Ferrari-use-illegal-extra-power.html
Legality checks give Ferrari green light MAY 27, 2018 F1 looks set to move on, following a controversy about the questionable legality of Ferrari's 2018 car. There have been separate questions asked about the legality of Ferrari's battery and turbocharger setup, but recent checks including in Monaco gave the Maranello team a green light. "At the FIA's request, Ferrari made changes to the energy management system and it is now impossible for more battery power than is allowed to be smuggled past the sensor," Auto Motor und Sport correspondent Michael Schmidt said. An FIA source confirmed: "We are satisfied with what was presented to us." Rumours a team might lodge an official protest have therefore subsided, not only because FIA president Jean Todt would be reluctant to allow such a move. Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul thinks the real problem is the technical regulations. "We need simpler technology in formula one," he said. "If even the FIA has trouble finding what's happening, we are on the wrong track."
Considering how well Ferrari treated Allison when his wife died I think these claims are pathetic and lead Ferrari to question outside personnel entering the Scuderia I personally hope Ferrari have something on the silver cars that torpedoes their championship ......... it may be childish but I'm sick of the bitter and twisted attempts by outsiders to catch Ferrari out .... as if SF would ever cheat I'm still livid about the barge board episode McLaren raised when we were about to win the championship and then there's the whole Stepneygate chapter that stinks to high heaven ...... good to see McLaren reaping all that karma for that indiscretion
Allison is a pathetic turd. Last year he moaned to the FIA about Ferrari's floor (which wasn't declared illegal) and subsequently after that about Ferrari's crude but in the end the same thing Mercedes has been running for years: An external oil tank. Just Ferrari's wasn't hidden as well. He spilled that to FIA as soon as he could. People claim that FIA is still Ferrari Assistance Internationale but nothing further from the truth. Even when Ferrari was dominant the FIA did everything they could to stop them dominating....change the point system, limit testing, finally with the tyres Ferrari caved in (which they didn't have to do). Yet FIA does everything they can to make it easy for the super dominant Mercedes team. They must have the most clear video of JT in a very uncompromising position...
At the very least Bas Donkeys ??? And I have the highest regard for JT but I've gotta say WTF are you doing to the Scuderia Jean ? Letting those crooks at Mercedes run roughshod over this sport/business
It's his lack of action that really surprises me. And when he does, he hands advantage to Mercedes. Big suit case of cash or compromising info is the only logical explanation.
FIA to keep checking Ferrari legality in Canada MAY 28, 2018 A legality saga involving Ferrari's 2018 car looks set to run and run. After monitoring hardware and software was installed following a round of speculation about the car's turbo and battery systems, the FIA gave Ferrari a clean bill of health in Monaco. But race director Charlie Whiting said more monitoring in Canada may now be necessary. "I'm not saying we'll definitely do it, because I assume we will come to the same conclusion," he said. "But Ferrari will make changes to the software in Canada. I'm not an expert, but we're trying to understand the difference of the two parts of the battery. "There is one battery, but the system perceives it as two," Whiting adding. "I don't think I'm giving anything away." He said Ferrari is not necessarily 'under investigation', explaining that Ferrari is simply using a battery system that is "completely different" to its rivals. "Before Canada, we will have more advanced systems that will allow us to get results much faster. We've been dealing with this issue for two race weekends now. "I have to say Ferrari provided us with everything that we needed," Whiting added. It is believed the 'tip' about Ferrari's questionable system came from Lorenzo Sassi, an engineer who recently switched from Maranello to Mercedes. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff would not confirm that. "One of my duties as team boss is to protect my employees," he said.
I didn't get the impression from the other article that any adjustments had been required to Ferrari's system; only that things checked out, including after Ferrari had to run an additional sensor someplace. Ferrari making changes - even if everything checked out - makes me a bit nervous that there might have been something undetectable to the FIA going on but now it won't be and, as a result, we may end up with less qualifying pace. And, if that happens, you can rest assured it will be another boring remainder of the year watching Sir Elton tell everyone how awesome his qualifying lap was and how he was really pushing it for the fans (and thank you fans for showing up, you all are totally awesome, like the best). Okay, a little bit of sarcasm about Hamilton, but jokes aside, i really hope this doesn't turn into yet another season of Mercedes running away.
What would the FIA do if Ferrari decided to protest this constant investigation by refusing to show up for Canada and run their cars. A victory by Mercedes would then be tainted and offer no glory. And the FIA would have to put up or shut up.
And now Toto is crying that the FIA threw them under the bus... http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/23630511/mercedes-feels-was-thrown-bus-ferrari-inquiry I still think that Mercedes messed up not getting Pampers or Huggies as a sponsor as they sure do soil there diapers quite often.
That would be interesting and I wonder if they should do it, particularly if there is actually something going on with their batteries.
Mercedes are the new McLaren to Ferrari Can't beat them on the track ? We'll hound them in the courts
Not really, just means Toto and company still want them to be. The FIA bends over for anything Merc wants. They've got nothing and are a complete joke.
Hopefully you are correct. It sure sounds, frankly, like Ferrari's system may be so complicated that if they were doing something they shouldn't have been, they may be able to disguise it from whatever software that FIA wants them to run. But hopefully they whole thing is a bunch of whining over nothing on the part of Mercedes.
It's called a loophole. Ferrari has made it so complicated that they have exploited this loophole. Nothing new in F1. Eventually this clarification will be exploited then Mercedes will use it OR the FIA deems it "illegal" (just like the FRIC system that ran for 2+ years with the Mercs and RedBulls) and shut it down. If the latter, let's hope we have a plan B.
Now Toto is complaining about that Charlie admitted that Sassi was the "snitch". Later Todt complained about that Toto was using the press to put pressure on them. A true gentlemen sport..
