Hopefully those that have attended before received the email to register... think I started this back on the 2nd or 3rd year. That being said GO REGISTER!!!

And a question. I did the registration, hit enter, and got a blank registration form again. Anyone that may have done this today, did you get a confirmation of any sort on the website immediately or via email?

I signed up this afternoon and did receive a confirmation email soon after.

Really looking forward to this. Last year was my 1st one and it was an outstanding event.

Just one week until this year's event, and I hope that everyone who reads this and has a suitable car (not necessarily a Ferrari) has registered as a driver. (If you don't have a suitable car, register as a volunteer!)

As of right now the forecast for Dawsonville for 6/2 is hot and sunny with little chance of rain. (Keep your fingers crossed.) After only being able to volunteer last year because my car was being serviced, this year the 328 is ready to roll.

Will...Will there be a caravan heading up to the track from FoA, and if so, what time would it be leaving the dealership? If we elect to go directly to the track, what time should we arrive?

Hi everyone, so far registrations have come on strong and we are over subscribed for drivers, volunteers and guests. This year promises to be our biggest ever thanks to all of you who support the kids. As was the traditional custom, we will leave from the dealership and caravan to AMP. We depart the dealership at 8:45am. The drive is 50 minutes. As is always the case, please know how much I appreciate all of your support for Rides To Remember.

It would be nice and interesting if a parent or aid would let a child decide by them self which car they'd like to ride in. It's been my observation over the years that many adults select the car that they want to ride in.

The route for the caravan is posted, in great detail, on the event website. I urge everyone who is planning to go to print out a copy. And I hope the leader of the caravan follows that route precisely. (That did not quite happen the last time I did it two years ago.)

And there will be refreshments at the dealership before we leave, right, Will?

Hi Jim, we promise to feed and water all drivers while we complete the registration process at the dealership. We also have been assured we will have police escort all the way to the Dawson County line provided there is no large scale emergency in the jurisdictions. That means we are playing a pretty strict game of follow the leader all the way to 53. Weather looks great and our organizing committee has done a fantastic job. You guys make it work! Thank you

I hope the police escort covers every traffic signal, because in the past, that didn't happen and parts of the caravan were left behind at red lights, resulting in people speeding to catch back up, and perhaps missing a turnoff. Two years ago we did not have any police escort beyond the Alpharetta city limits, and that's what happened.

Jim... Think if people stay in line... left side (so people entering from the on-ramp exits don't slice the line up).... If there is a light, someone stay and wait for the rest to catch up. The light where we'd make a left past the outlet malls, that one only gets us a few cars through unless the police hold the traffic at that light.

Except if you check the PDF I reference below, we're not taking the GA-400 route. The entire route is on two-lane roads.

Yeah, the wording is a bit misleading. This is basically the same route used two years ago - the last time I went as a "driver" - except bypassing the construction on Rucker Road, and with a police escort through Cherokee County, which is a step forward. I don't believe the last part of the trip involves any traffic signals, so the lack of police escort there should not matter that much.

In 2016, whoever was leading the caravan failed to make the right onto Shiloh Church Road, which is not a critical error, since Yellow Creek Road still goes to GA-53. But it is a bit shorter via Shiloh Church.

Organizers...Will... Outstanding event today, and the escort was crazy good! (Unfortunately I had to leave just as a mother and her child
hopped in, low tire pressure @ 8psi rt rear. I did recall running over something on a left turn somewhere.... **** happens you know). But its
not about Bob but da kiddos! Nice work everyone and next year will be here before we know it. Hope all the kids and their families enjoyed the day.

Some of the action at FoA before the caravan to the track. Breakfast was catered by J. Christopher's and was very good, though as someone who doesn't eat eggs, I was a bit disappointed that all the biscuit choices contained eggs. Fortunately, there were very nice yogurt and fruit cups at an adjacent table, so I was decently fed.

You can see the first part of the caravan lineup waiting to go; if you look closely you'll see my 328 in the right-hand lane. Will said there were 96 cars registered, but not all were in the caravan, notably a group of 10 Cobras who went straight to the track. I don't know why the photo of the Nissan came out fuzzy, but I was told that John Morton drove that car in competition at the Mitty in April, where he was grand marshal. And there were a number of Huracan Performantes in the line.

I have a thing for interesting personalized license plates (being the owner of one myself). I'll bet the guy with the prized "FERRARI" plate has had numerous offers made to him.

I managed to get one "grab shot" through my windshield as we caravanned north. I was the 9th car in line so most of the action was behind me. With over 60 cars in the line, some of the people on the cross streets had to wait a long time for all of us to pass. (Rather like waiting at an RR crossing for a 120-car freight to pass by!) In 13 years, this was the most efficient escort we'd had yet; there were no breaks in the line all the way to Dawson County, and by then we really didn't need an escort; 2 stop signs did nothing to break up the caravan. Kudos to the Alpharetta and Cherokee County PDs and to the people who organized everything with them.

(Note the people in the oncoming lane pulling off. What did they think we were, a funeral procession?)

And here we are at AMP, with a field full of cars. My 328 appears rather prominently in the first photo, but it took a long time for me to get my only rider; kids just don't appreciate the older cars the way the adults do. The guy with the gray Panamera next to it had the right idea, he "advertised" by keeping all his doors open, and eventually he did get a full car of riders. In the second photo, one can just make out the unique and now familiar Citroen 2CV wagon, which hopefully was able to keep up once on track! (I kidded Andy about his not bringing his 18-HP Fiat 500, which could have set a record for the slowest lap of AMP!)

The most intriguing car to me was the Lotus 11 (not an original), but I never saw if he got any riders. I liked the gorilla mascot (named Otis) on one of the Cobras; he did bear a bit of resemblance to his car owner! And above you've read kaamacat's tail of woe about the puncture he picked up in his Camaro ZL1 on his way up, so he had to leave early. And I had never seen an adult in the back seat of a Porsche 911 (a cabrio, no less!), but the kid wanted to ride up front. The fuse for the seat adjuster was blown, so dad had to squeeze in the back for the duration of the run!

I took one quick photo upstairs of a group on the track as I headed in to get lunch. Because of the large number of cars, we were limited to two "hot" laps per session, but that was good enough, and the pacing was perfect, not too fast, not too slow. Lunch was an outstanding selection of box lunches, the best I've seen yet, and we got to eat in air-conditioned comfort, amid a lot of good conversation. There are people I see at this event every year who I then don't see until the following year's event!
