Dumb question about driving shoes!

So do these Clown shoe's somehow enhance the driving experience?
I just spent some time in my car today with flip flops.....am I missing something.

If you're not driving three pedals, just wear loafers that you take off and go barefoot. I'm not kidding.

 

I have 6 pairs of Puma driving shoes, love them. Oh and none of mine have a car brand logo, neither Ferrari, BMW or Mercedes. In my Lotus there is a very small peddle box and the narrower the shoe the better. Pumas are great driving shoes for not much money such as TODs. Those are just too expensive for what they are.

 

I wear Pumas. Had to get them with the 456M because the pedals were so close together. Even though it was an automatic, I liked the thin soles for pedal feel.

I can actually wear running shoes in the 360, and I tried it, but went back to the Pumas because they feel so much better for driving.

Don't get heel-and-toe. I just row through the gears while braking until I'm ready to put on the gas. Seems like a needless complication.

 

Back in the day, heel and toe was mandatory for racing. You come flying into a corner and your trail braking and sliding at the same time when you need to pull a down shift. You need to match those revs very, very carefully.

 

I do tracks just fine without it. Why not just brake until you need to hit the gas while getting to the proper gear? Like I say, it just seems overly complicated.

 

Ask me this question after you try T2 at Laguna at 10/10ths. It is a double apex corner where you have to rotate the car on entry to position yourself for the exit.

Nowadays though, the auto transmissions are so good, you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

But I used to heel and toe when "speed shifting" my Maranello going from 2rd to 3th. When you nail it, man that feels good.

 

I've watched YouTube videos and everything, and I just don't get it. Maybe a racer could get around a track faster that way, but I don't drive that hard. I don't find it fun to push too much.

Heel-toe just seems too much like work.

 

Once you perfect it, it's really kinda fun. It's kinda like a zipperless ****.

Look like leather dress shoes so can wear them with a suit if needed.
I wear 13-14 size shoes in general and most normal shoes are either too wide in the sole or ledges on the edge of the shoe that can catch on the neighboring pedal. Hitting the brake and throttle at the same time can be disconcerting

Revisiting it, I'm kinda curious about Jimpo's suggestion of the Cole Haan Grant Escape. I may have to check them out.

Getting that "work" right is its own reward. It's one component of why some of us prefer the slower 3-pedal car over the irrelevantly faster paddle-shift wonderappliance.

I have palindromic arthritis, which moves sometimes hourly through my body. In other words something (sometimes it is in more one place) always hurts. It can move to my ankles and even the bottom of my feet. The shoes I choose can be the difference between being able to drive my cars or not. I choose the shoes, yeah I have way too many and bought two more pair after reading this thread the first time. Just cant help myself.

Merrell Chameleons or Jungle Mocs. I did get fancy recently and got a pair of Allen Edmonds driving type loafers.

It's doing it to me as well, so it might be a glitch, but if it's in Silver or Rossa, you aren't subscribed to those.

Alternately, it may be in the Owner's forum, which neither of us is subscribed to.

D'OH!!!!!! Sorry about that - It's in the OF, which didn't occur to me.

Most the usual suggestions are there. Jimpo's suggestion was the main one that stood out to me, which is why I mentioned it. My 30+ year standard has been too-small Sperry Topsiders, water-formed to my feet.
