Hello Forum, I have 98 F355 F1, I've changed everything regarding the clutch and even attempted to repair the TCU but still having a problem. Does anyone have, or know where I can get a new TCU? I have already tried Ebay, Ferrparts, and Scuderiaparts. Thanks in advance.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I ended up taking it to the dealer and they have stated the problem is from the F1 system. They recommended changing the whole system to solve the problem. Now I'm looking to convert it from the F1 system to a manual system because it would be a night and day difference in price. I have found many of the parts required to convert it. Would I be required to change the ECU for this job?
Do you mean the engine Motronics ECU (for the manual conversion)? I hope they said that as a joke. Just because they can't fix it, it doesn't mean someone else can't. I'm sure every individual component is either fixable or replaceable on the F1. Have they checked everything (including the engine/gearbox support mounts)? Ask them what their diagnostic computers are telling them.
Converting the car is, well, stupid. Sorry, it is. Clearly the people working on it have no clue. I want the parts but if the OP comes to his senses, I'd be happy to help him get the car in the hands of techs that can properly diagnose and fix the problem.
I have the whole process mapped to switch a car from F1 to Manual. It is not very hard from what I can tell. I have not done it so I am sure there are some surprises I have not fully defined. But why? The F1 system is not easy...but not very complicated. The F1 car, when running right is waaaaay cool. There are far fewer F1 cars than manual cars. To the OP...if you want to sell the car, let me know. I am interested. Post your issues in detail...lots of help here. Or PM me...Dave...or others....we can help.
As time goes on the idiots working on these cars keeps growing. Any tech wanting to switch an f1 because of costs is not someone you want working on anything because they are literally clueless.
The OP needs to run and get the car to someone who understands it and is not trying to bend them over
The car doesn't change gears. Turn the car on, car goes into neutral and doesn't go into first when warm. Then it would engage randomly. Sometimes it doesn't go into reverse. Drove the car for 30 minutes with no problems and then it just wouldn't change gears after coming to a full stop. They said the F1 pump is losing pressure from the actuator and should have the whole system replaced. They also said the mounts need to be replaced because the engine is leaning on the hydraulic hose?Going to further diagnose the vehicle. They said that the diagnostic shows no codes. Any info helps. Thanks.
For what it’s worth, the F1 is a much rarer variety than a gated car. They will be highly prized. You live in southern CA. I’m sure there are a few very capable hands that can fix your car as it should be done.
Pump could be failing. That's not new. Options exist from 360 pump conversion to OEM style replacement. The relay could be the problem...easy fix. Worn motor mounts will drop the engine and create a contact point on the input shaft at the cross bar. That's a real concern. You can see that easily looking underneath. I chased a similar issue. Not saying it is the problem, but a blown accumulator bulb makes the pump run all the time and completely screws up gear selections. It also ruins the pump in very short order. Take a look here: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f1-accumulator-bulb-replacement-procedure.555260/ Based on what you just described..... I would....and I am not you....do this: 1. New Motor mounts 2. New pump (Juri or others) 3. New "fail off" relay. 3. Put in new accumulator bulb See what I got......carry on.
My recommendation would be close New motor mounts Check how much motor runs If runs lots replace accumulator If motor drawing more than 10 amps replace. Also when reading Watsons post I believe he meant to change motor on pump not pump.
Being n burbank take the car to fast cars and thenenjoy it later. Redondo beach and a sponsor. I have talked to. Their guys lots and they have man qualified people not just one.
