How's this for a beginning: Magnum (Selleck) returns to hawaii for Tanaka's funeral. He visits the estate he left 22 years ago. As is he chased by Zues Jr and Apollo Jr on entry he hides in the garage. He walks backwards against an object. He turns around and there it is, covered in dust...
all the little elements that made that show won't translate well 22 years later (grown man STILL living for free and driving someone elses' Ferrari, etc. ) If you change up too much, it is no longer Magnum... I think it's best left alone.
No no, not still living the same life. He left, wrote that PI manual, got married had kids and returns for a visit. Reunites with his old buddies. Then someone asks for his help. He says, "no no no, I stopped doing that stuff a long time ago." But they insist, because he is THE BEST. (hmmm, sounds familiar LOL)
* tires ? Birdman's fuseblocks ? Would have to have just come from a full restoration. I'd love to see the red 308qv, at least at the beginning. Problem is there is only 1 Tom Selleck, I don't think anyone else could play Magnum to our satisfaction but it could still be a great movie if done properly, combining old with the new.
He got shot at end of season 7 (the second to last)The writers changed their minds and brought him back. They were going to let him die but changed the plot to have one more season happen. In the last two episodes he re-upped into the Navy. He showed up for Rick's wedding dressed in his uniform with Lily his daughter who he thought had been killed (as the flower girl) Higgins told him that everything that he had told him about not being Robin Masters had been a lie..... Perfect set up for a subsequent series pick up or movie one day. 22 years later now.....
The first hour of the movie could be at the Ferrari dealer getting the car reconditioned. Hell, I'd watch.
I think that if the movie is going to be set on our current days and not twenty two years ago that then Tom S. should play the role. If he is to be replaced it will be more of a let down. Most of the people that are going to watch this movie mid thirties or older, so they will expect Tom as Magnum. I remember watching Miami Vice at the theaters and thinking what a disaster. Besides the movie sucking big time then we have one guy I can't stand Jamie Foxx and that made even worst.
+1 The voice over by Tom Selleck throughout was the hallmark of each episode in all eight seasons. Given this the Magnum PI premise would be spoiled without Tom Selleck. His voice is so recognizable. Even when heard in ads today. The premise of a decorated patriotic veteran with loyal war buddies dealing with adventure years later.... It seems it would work with the next generation in a modern scenario. Maybe one or two of the older characters' children come into focus and get into a jam (with the war on terror or something connected to the past) and Magnum and friends supply help and guidance. By now Magnum has the use of Robin's Nest to himself as a respeced retired Admiral. Higgins has retired to southern France and sometimes writes novels as Robin Masters about a Tropical Island Private Investigator.....Because it's Hollywood and not an indy film the 308 is still sitting in the garage as a collector's piece and a brand new Ferrari ______ is on tap for the action. Supplied by the factory of course.
I am revising this thread just to point out that Hollywood read my note and listened. Read what I wrote in 2007: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/magnum-pi-movie-news.112636/page-3#post-136369820 Then watch the trailer. The new Ferrari gets blown up and the 308 saves the day. At least they did that right, even if they chopped Tom Selleck out. Birdman

YEAH!!! I can't wait for tht to start. I hoping it will be a huge hit. if it is then that's GREAT for us because that means there will be a whole new generation that will want to own a 308. the only bad part is in the trailer it looks like it will get totaled at some point during the show. let hope they fix and keep it in. at least for a season or two. I wonder how many they bought/borrow to do the filming of the new show. All I know is I am VERY happy I got mine now, just in case the price skyrockets because of the show.
From the trailer it seems the 308 will only be in the first episode since it gets destroyed and goes off a cliff...unless Robin Masters has a few 308 in his garage stashed away. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
