350/400GT thread

Thanks to Marcel who took the picture here is another from my series of 'Pandas in the Footsteps of Famous Lamborghinis'.

Although much has changed since 1964 this is without doubt the same location and the electricity pole and the building in the background are still there...

Greetings all! I'm a newbie to the forums here, though I've lurked around for quite some time. We recently acquired a 350GT that I am working to trace the history on. The car is #0400 and it doesn't appear in the Lamborghini Registry. I've contacted Polo Storico... and they like to take their time. So in the meantime, I'm hoping the community can offer us some insight. Would anyone have info related to what the engine number should be? Any ownership history? Its a tired car in need of some restoration work, but it isn't a total disaster. Very restorable as it sits! Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Wayne Carini on Chasing Classic Cars on the Velocity cable channel features a 400GT in tonight’s episode at 10pm EST.

 

400GT, just rolled into my shop. Will be doing a driving restoration on it, not interested in Pebble Beach, owner wants to just drive it. I just finished rebuilding the engine, so at least that part is done. Come back next year and by then, maybe car will
be on its wheels with engine in it.

Can you share the VIN? Looks like a solid project.

 

This car is so original, my 350 was number 3 and I did not have luggage hold down straps in it, but I found them in this car.
Also posting a pic of the VIN tag welded to the frame 499. Pic is hard to read, but that is the number. And 487 is the engine number.

Again same car different day. Wow taking apart, such fun. Car is not as rusty as I first thought, but still lots of fun taking it apart. Turns out car is a steel body 350 with a 4 ltr eng.

That would be one of the very seldom "interims"!

 

Same car different day You talk about something that is heavy, that darn radiator is heavy. Last pic, banjo fitting to fuel tanks before and after, I am sure they are tractor parts.

My knowledge about this particular car is that the 4l engine is post-production replacement. But i´m always happy to be corrected if i´m wrong.
Maybe Chad can clarify that topic and might share the VIN plate and the engine number stamps.

Chad wrote that it's a steel 350 body. I'm not aware of any steel 350 body which was fitted with a 3.5 litre engine by the factory. Hence I think this must be an interim. For sure an interesting car...

 

What I have heard, is, the car was commissioned as a steel body 350, but when it came time for the 350 engine, the factory did not have the parts for the 350, so they installed a 4 ltr.

Next, to anybody with a 350, and maybe a 400GT 2+2. In the boot there is a closing panel that when open allows access to the battery and brake boosters. If anyone has a pic or the dimensions of that panel, would certainly appreciate it.

Another day, moving right along, lots less rust than I thought, which is good.
Brake parts will be off to Karps next week.
