He must be near the top of most fastest race laps over a career, and no shortage of lap records, either.
I guess Kimi wants to keep Leclerc at Alfa one more year. Awesome start / awesome race by the Kimster today. Ferrari FINALLY 10 points ahead of Merc in the Constructor's championship. Vettel in first place in the Driver's.
the start showed the difference between great drivers and great racers......... especially Kimi sandwiched in the middle having the most dangerous position of the 3. Racing 3 wide thru a corner and no contact, Just clean hard racing. Younger drivers would have tried to win the race on the first corner wrecked one another. Great job KIMI! 2019
The only driver that races with the same amount of precision (consistently) is Ricciardo (who might even do it better I must add). Out of all drivers, you can be guaranteed by those 2 NOT to be forced of track or even squeezed. Hard but fair racers.
Alonso absolutely, how could I forget. Hulk I have no evidence to not agree, an interesting suggestion, so I agree there also.
I think Kimi will retire soon. He is a champ. Has plenty of moey. Still produces great drive. But. At the end of the race he looked beat and immediately sat down on a couch.
I still would prefer Kimi over Leclerc next year in the second seat. Give Leclerc a year at Haas and then get him in there in 2020. Great race by Kimi.
He's actually #2 all time behind Michael. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_drivers_who_set_a_fastest_lap
Really puts Schumachers' achievement in perspective that. Double what lewis has....31 more than Kimi! Simply incredible.
Exactly. Some people sweat more/show more red in face after a work out (or if it's generally hot). Nothing to do with fitness or lack of it. Max, like his dad, sweats like a peadophile at the playground...but he's as fit as any other driver. Kimi always sits down after a race, he likes comfort I guess.
"Max Verstappen won the Austrian Grand Prix in his Red Bull-Renault by 1.506 seconds over a charging Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari in second place." Kimi was pushing hard, so he deserved a sit down after the race, but the truth be told he was upset that he missed the win by 1.506 seconds and felt gutted.
Do you know how many people think that Kimi was sitting back and being lazy not chasing max until the last 9 laps? Its insane. Even before the post race review......even before his engineer came on the radio and told him he has the green light to push hard I knew that both Vettel and Kimi were saying their tires as they didn't want to throw away the 2 podium positions and mega points. Sometimes when I hear people bashing Kimi for being lazy or not attacking, I wonder if they actually sat down and watched the race or they have no concept of racing?
well arguably you can also say they decided to push too late...post-race kimi himself said he needed a few more laps so...
Well, let's face it, Kimi is the best second driver for Ferrari today. Imagine Leclerc pushing Vettel like Riccardo did, not sure if it will be the way to go from a championship perspective.
He should end up with 100 podiums for a career by the end of the year. Nice achievement to send him off with before LeClerc comes in next year.
I agree. LeClerc is still contracted into the Ferrari driver program, so it's not like any other teams are going to be able to snap him up. So far, while he's had a few good races, he's only really been directly comparable in F1 to Ericsson, which isn't particularly informative. He held up Alonso for a fair bit, but Alonso is driving a dog-slow McLaren. I'd leave LeClerc at Sauber for one more season to get a few mistakes out of his system, and tell Raikkonen that 2019 is probably going to be his last season so enjoy himself on track. All the best, Andrew.
I'm not looking forward to when Kimi retires BUT when he does announce his retirement I am looking forward to all the TV specials that sky sports make about his career. Kimi will always be a legend, winning a championship for Ferrari. Leclerc should be proud to take over for Kimi when such a time comes as Kimi was the successor to Michael Schumacher and now he is the successor to Kimi. many have drove for Scuderia Ferrari........few have come close to a WDC with Ferrari........even fewer have won.........Kimi did..........the humble boy from Espoo Finland won......
He's saying that drivers, like any employee, are rated on present performance rather than past successes. All the best, Andrew.
