A 488 here won’t shut off. Owner disconnected the battery, but it still is running. Ideas?

I've had this issue several times - it's possible to shut off after it cools down.

Just keep driving. It’s never supposed to shut off. It’s an option on the car from Maranello

Do you mean engine wont stop or you cant shut the electronic off? If it’s the electronics, and you have a blue tooth phone paired, turn off Bluetooth on your phone.

If similar to what I experienced, when pushing the start/stop button the dashboard goes as turning off but the engine continues to run.
Going away with the key does not stop the engine either.

Disconnecting the battery is a bad idea. I agree with cutting off the fuel relay first and then disconnecting the battery.

Is this to continue to supply cooling to the turbos like years ago? If so, it would continue to run until the extreme temps drop and then shut off.

I know yours was a joke. :) I am talking about the car not really shutting down. That’s crazy. Maybe needs to run to cool off for some time then shut down.

Car literally ran for more than two hours. Talking fuel-combustion-in-cylinders type of running, not just a fan or something. Owner had I believe Miller Motor car come to pick it up, and haul it away running. Not sure on the final diagnosis. Completely crazy that a car would not turn off.

Please let us know the outcome if you find out what caused it. I’ve never heard of something like that before with any car.

I say electric failure/sensor malfunction. As a rule, I'm extremely suspicious of keyless systems. I wouldn't recommend choking the exhaust, running out of fuel and/or disconnecting the battery. I'd recommend checking the owners' manual to stop fuel from flowing and tow the car to the dealer at the first opportunity. Come to think of it, drive it to the dealer, once you can't turn the car off, you won't be stranded on the way.

Hope everything works out for you, C.T. Graves!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Two hours is crazy - I never "timed" when I had the issue, but although it seemed like ages I doubt it was ever more than twenty minutes each time (but I never let it die spontaneously, it's just afer numerous attempts of start/stop button pushing that it shut off).
I'm pretty sure it's related with temperature, but not more than that; it's relatively rare so when Ferrari claimed they had solved the issue with a "steering wheel software upgrade" it was impossible to check whether it was actually solved.
It was not, since I had the issue again; they'll have a look again in a few weeks during the next annual maintenance.

That’s code for a software bug they found! They also likely introduced. I’d wager it was a race condition they hadn’t anticipated...

So I am the lucky one to experience this yesterday. Drove car normally parked it when I came back every warning light outside of gearbox light was on. Shut down car and waited then restarted same issue. Was able to drive it and it shifted got home which was about 10 minute drive. Car would not shut off. I have a great dealer who got me a tech we face timed and nothing worked. Roadside came car got on flatbed and off to dealer locally. Will report back but they pulled power to the fuse box and car shut down. He mentioned the rear camera as well. I washed the car the night before and perhaps water found its way into something. Thankfully we have the warranty so we shall see what the fix is.

FWIW, I did not experience the issue anymore; it's possible that eventually some software update solved the issue.
It always happened to me during track days, so it followed some relatively intensive use (still, the car was never in actual overheating condition).
