My mystery wiring for a radar detector dives into the rear view mirror housing and not the overhead console as most others. Does anyone know how to remove the cover from the housing? I have had enough of looking at this giant spool of wiring hanging from the rear view mirror. Thanks!

You can't remove the housing without removing the entire mirror from the windshield. Have someone experienced at removing the mirror do it.

If it really bothers you like it would me, I would carefully strip it at the headliner as close as I could get it . Separate and insulate the leads and stuff push it back in the headliner to hide it. Then I would just snip the rest off and pretend it was never there. Cheaper fix then removing the mirror but removing the mirror is probably the best way.

It’s super irritating, but i’ll Let the dealership sort it out. They said they’ve never seen one the goes into the mirror housing and not the overhead console.

Are you sure this is not a radar mirror integrated display?

IE: A integrated radar system where the display in in the mirror itself?

That's the only time I see this type of wire fed into the mirror itself.

Try going to a good glass replacement Company. One that is familiar with Ferrari. If the mirror is torqued improperly, pushed or pulled improperly you could end up with a fractured windshield. Just went through a mirror issue where the mirror fell off.( Hot weather plus high humidity). The local mirror stick on stuff may work temp but will fall off again. Used via Ferrari Dealer a glass company familiar with how to remove the mirror etc were Ferrari had limited knowledge.

I know this is an old thread but I came here looking for the same answer.

The mirror surround is a 'snap' fit. See the workshop manual excerpt below.

I read another forum thread which was a horror story. He ended up cracking his $7k windshield trying to pry off the mirror housing. I just hardwired and ran the wire above the trim by driver side windshield. Came out great without taking any covers off aside from fuse box.

Yeah, the actual base is sikaflexed / glued onto the glass and there is a good chance of cracking the windscreen when removing it.

I took mine off to repair the sticky surface. Here are some pics for anyone that needs to understand how it attaches. A tip is to remove the ceiling dome light assembly to make it much easier to reattach the surround and route the cables. That assembly has a clip that pops out and covers 3 screws.

Can you elaborate on how it comes off the base, Nico?
