I've got 8 kids! Yes...Eight Is Enough. Yes...I finally figured out what causes this to happen. Anyway, 6 are drivers now and they remember when Dad used to drive them around in the Ferrari as kids. Jump ahead 10 years and waited for the day when they could drive their dream car!

Does anyone have adults (besides the Mrs.) in the family that drive their Ferrari?

Nope. And you would have been foolish to give me the keys when I was 15-24.

Right? I'd have 8 Ferraris right now if I didn't drink the water.

I have a neighbour who lets his approx. 20 year old son drive his 458. He is always racing around. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten it impounded by the police yet.

Daughters 19th b-day present was tracking the 360. Sometimes on the street, but only when I am with them.

I had "rights of use" to my Dad's cars, including Ferrari's, when I was a teenager, but I was warned that I was under penalty of death if I crashed one due to bad behaviour, which I entirely believed, and I was also responsible for cleaning & detailing all of them weekly. That was sort of the payment in kind. He had a lot of cars and I was a good detailer.

The insurance rate for me at age 16 on those cars was $1200/month. :|
    That was in 1992.

Good Golly! How many cars did your father have? I did a before & after shot of adding my oldest son to the policy for 1 Ferrari, and it came out to $350/year. Not bad, but I have more that want invitations to this party.

Nice present! Did you have to add them to the policy or just out on a limb?

Haha, yeah he had a few back then!

$350 a year seems really good!

What was it like growing up? You would meet your friends after the game. They in their Camaro, Nova, Datsun, Mazda...and then you pull up in a Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche.

$350 is not bad at all. He's over 21 with a clean record. Now the other kids that are under 21 and have a few dings...I'm afraid to inquire.

Hahaha. It was actually kind of like that, I guess. I never "advertised" that my Dad had these cars (he forbade it as showing off), so I'd usually park it quietly outside of some party, and then eventually someone would come up saying "There's a Ferrari outside!", and I'd get to say, "oh yeah that's mine. Wanna go for a ride?" That was pretty cool. :) There were a few I wasn't allowed to drive though.

I always say I was like Thomas Magnum to my Dad's "Higgins". I got to drive some cool cars at a young age, and my Dad got to give me a lot of grief about making sure I cleaned every spoke of every Borrani wheel perfectly. Haha. Actually, he was very cool about it. At the time of course, I couldn't imagine a reason any halfway decent Dad wouldn't hand the keys of an (at the time) $90,000/380hp bright red Ferrari sports car over to his 16 year old kid. In retrospect of course, I realize how cool it was for him to do that. We eventually "co-owned" one car together (a Mondial). We didn't always see eye to eye and he was very tough in some ways, but we bonded over cars so I think it made sense to him. Plus, I really was a good detailer!!!

Now that I'm older I've confessed some of the speeds I took those cars up to in my youthful enthusiasm, to much groaning and poorly hidden pride on his part. Haha. But he taught me to drive well, and I took a few "advanced" driving classes at his urging, so I guess he was marginally confident I wouldn't kill myself.

He ultimately sold everything off around age 70, and now he drives a 10 year old Mazda hatchback!

For what it's worth, I think it was a very cool thing for him to do. You're only young and beautiful once, and being young and beautiful in a Ferrari is an experience that never wore off.

Too Cool! I can't think of a better way to pass on this legacy. Who will drive these wonderful machines once the world becomes too practical?

I can't even imagine! It's fascinating how each step in the journey molds us and makes us who we are. I always say, "Dont give me a million bucks" because I know know myself too well. Life is good!
