Good job by the Haas team. They should give up on Grosjean and rescue Kubica from Williams.

    Steiner rejects Grosjean axe rumours

    MAY 24, 2018

Haas boss Gunther Steiner has rejected rumours that say struggling driver Romain Grosjean will be dumped.

The Frenchman is having a dire 2018 season and is out of contract at the end of the year.

But Steiner said in Monaco there is no truth to the paddock rumours that say Haas is considering replacing him.

"The best way to deal with a rumour like that is to say there is no basis at all," he said. "We haven't talked about it in the team for a second.

"If you have two bad races in a row, it's not worth thinking about," Steiner added.

He said that if there are discussions behind closed doors at Haas, they are about how to support Grosjean.

"For me, the focus is on bringing Romain back to the performance he is capable of. I don't like to kick someone who is on the ground.

"He knows better than all of us that Baku and Barcelona were not good. Can something like that happen here? Yes it can.

"But in such a moment you have to think positively. When you focus on the negative, you only create more negativity. I know very well how Romain can drive."

The contracts of both Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen expire this year, but Steiner says it's not the time to discuss contracts.

"It's not an issue before the summer break in August," he said. "Until then nothing moves in the driver market.

"We have let many points slip through our fingers and that's what we want to avoid now. We have different priorities than drivers."

It’s still early in the season, but if Grojean continues to struggle Haas should be considering a change.

You can’t blame Canada on Grojean! He did pretty damn well from his spot in the last row.
Losing the engine before leaving the pit lane in qualifying, WOW.

His luck has to turn around, a well timed safety car and he could have had some points.

Grosjean makes up for not hitting anyone last week with hitting 2 people this week.

    IMO, Leclerc goes to Ferrari
Kimi goes to Sauber to help that team for a year. Its better than him retiring.
    Haas gets a US driver.

Leclerc goes to Ferrari in 2020

    vettel wins 2018,2019,2020 and retires

I think Sergio wants Alfa to be superior to Haas. I expect a huge improvement next year now that many ex-Ferrari people are involved.

Maybe, but he has already tasted F1, and wasn't very good at it., if I remember.
He is a bit old news, IMO.

Things change. I think an American driver in an American team would do a lot of good for F1.

I don't think you could fairly say he "wasn't very good at it." He only drove for Caterham (testing) and then the dog slow Marussia (5 races), so very hard to quantify performance in that environment. He was quicker than Will Stevens... which isn't much, but it is something :D

I'm sure he would be very credible if perhaps unspectacular in something like the HAAS...

Why nobody thought about her before?

Haas should keep Magnussen and replace Grosjean. Alexander Rossi would bring a lot to the table here in the USA. That's important enough, in my opinion.

I know absolutely nothing about IndyCar other than the fact that it's open wheeled racing, but does it translate well into F1 as well? What would be his realistic expectations making the move to F1 to a team like Haas?

Rossi used to be in F1. Marussia/Manor 2014-2016 (reserve driver) and Caterham before that. I think think the transition would be okay for him.:)

Yes, and its been a while. He's got a lot more experience now. Is he another Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso? No. But he would be a great asset for Team Haas.
