Hi Guys. Read many threads where jacking up the car and other things have contributed to the rear window on the TR cracking. Seems to becoming a big problem lately. The car I am working on also has had this happen. The glass in some cases is going on 25 years old now. There was another company making them in AZ, however having bought things in the past from them I would be cautious regarding plexiglass. I also dont think they are available any longer. I am going to be making a 100% acrylic rear window for a TR. It will have the exact same dimensions as the original as well as the best scratch resistence and hardness available. This is the same acrylic used in Nascar Was wondering if anyone else might like to get in on this limited run? If it could be spread out over 10-15 pieces the cost would certainly be lowered from one unit. The factory replacement glass lists out on Eurospares for around $1800 USD. If we did this the cost would be $500.00 Each. Shipping and boxing would be at cost. Can it hurt to have this one as a spare, or if yours is already cracked? Thoughts? Count?
Good deal, 3 so far including me. No rear defrost as the rear window will be the hardcoated lexan. If you want that you gotta spend the 1800 smackeroos, maybe more from the fpimp.
sorry for the question, but why does a full frame (and heavy!) car like a TR flex enough to break / crack the rear glass ?
Maybe this is the case for all TRs, but my 512TR has plexi rear side windows (behind the doors.) I'd thought these were the ones prone to cracking. Do all TRs have plexi for those?
Interesting. That's another change for the late TRs then I guess. Thanks Mel. Back to the OP: Any safeguard that can save a big headache and potentially thousands is probably worth it. Best wishes.
Just resurrecting this post to see if anyone got around to making a plexiglass (or Lexan, etc.) rear window for a Testarossa/512TR? Alternatively, does anyone know of a supplier offering these with the heating elements built in? Cheers.
After 6 winters, I never used the heater of my rear window Rob ...... I think people should be very happy to find any replacement at all .... Better: be preventive ! Read this !
Agreed, I doubt I'll ever use my HRW and, in any case, it looks like I'll end up with plain glass as the originals are long ago extinct. I do like to keep things original wherever possible though hence the question.
Not sure if this is plastic or glass but it doesn't have the heating element... Ferrari 512 TR 512 M Testarossa Rear Windshield Glass | eBay
I'm sure it's glass. Dumb part is glass is considered part of the crash structure and a non standard material cannot legally be sold for a street car. Lexan really is a better idea.
If you can not find a rear window, we have a company in this area that can make it for you. They do custom glass for high end boats. Pm me if you need the info.
just spend the money and get the oem glass ..... these cars are worth too much now to dick around with value engineering and using non original materials like acrylic. someone will just have to undo it later.
ken it would be great if you could read the following post/poll and fill out some, this will help you and also the other members here thank you https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/what-do-you-think-about-filling-out-the-profile-and-introducing.567692/
