I was contacted by my local BMW dealer, they just took in a 355 in trade. I listed the car in the Classifieds, might be a great buy for someone.

I think I saw that ad on autotrader and looked at the carfax and has a huge mileage reporting issue.

It seems like someone unhooked the speedo. I'm sure its quite common in these cars. For the price it could be a good project car.

Evidence doesn't support that. Mileage didn't suspend, it went from 53k to zero.

good point. So ond the carfax owner one had 95 miles on it on 11/14/94 and then at the emmissions testing on 2/11/98 it had 52,023 miles on it. Then owner two reported the mileage on 3/18/05 at 12,523. What happened? Rollback at the end of owner 1?

The car fax shows progressive miles up to 53k, then a restart and progressive up to current. I'm Speculating the speedometer / odometer was replaced.

EDIT - I see a gap for 4 years until 98. I don't know when Carfax started but this could be the reason

I like Dave's theory, the cluster may have had to be replaced

Sorry to see such a beautiful girl as abused and weathered as she is...

This car would need at least $40K to put right and then you have a title issue.

Seems to me it had a replacment odometer, It's pretty clear.

Now it has 30k on it so it's at around 80k wasn't taken care of and would need a **** ton of work.

Always look at the condition don't get all wrapped up on mileage.

Carfax is hit and miss as well but this is a pretty desent record of the cars life as far as the miles.

It's not so bad. I'd have an excuse to get the steam cleaner i've always wanted.

The water streaks on the airbag are a little weird...

How does and engine bay get that worn/weathered looking? That is rough. My car has a mileage discrepancy on the carfax. It was due to a clerical error when the car was in canada. Miles were written down in KM one year then back to miles the next. Once you do the conversion it makes sense. Not sure this one has that issue!

the engine gets that worn from having a lot of miles and the onwer not care enough to give it any attention. I have seen it. That is a 100kmiles car, or close to it.

Maybe but it doesn't really look like it's been detailed since 1995.

100K?!! How is that possible? The engine and transaxle would have to have been rebuilt at least twice! I thought that any Ferrari has an engine life expectancy of 30 K. :)
