Buddy of mine picked up a 13' Spider with Carbon fiber steering wheel + LED option. His LEDs do not light up at any RPMs. We went through all the options on the left TFT, everything is set properly. What are we missing??

There is an option in the "setup" series of screens. . .left side of steering wheel. Turn them on.

    Specifcally:

    1) Select setup from main menu
    2) Select car setup from next set of menu items
    3) Select RPM on steer - turn on

Tried it multiple times... No luck!

Car was purchased from a reputable Ferrari Dealer... Guess that didn't matter. Car is still under factory warranty. We will just send it in for service. Thanks!

Sorry for the issue. Hopefully it is a quick fix for the dealer. Best of luck with it.

I too had this problem after it had been to the dealer for non-working indicators.

It required a part from Italy and for Ferrari to, and I quote, "Dial into the car to fix it".

    Good luck with it.

I often joke that I have four children: two human and two mechanical LOL

Sure it will be an easy fix by dealer, and under warranty so no worries :)

I’d try a cold reboot. Disconnect the negative battery cable for two minutes, then reconnect. It’s also possible that the software has been corrupted and will need to be reloaded by a dealer.

As Viperjoe said, the first thing to do is try a hard reboot. If that does not work, then more than likely the PC board in the steering wheel needs to be replaced. This board controls the functions on the steering wheel. If I remember correctly, the part will need to come from Italy (called the NVO board?). Additionally, there is not a separate PCB for steering wheels with or without LED's - it's the same board. The difference is, the mechanic will need to get a proxy file from Ferrari to activate the LED's. Hope this helps.

I should have added that in my case, the proxy file needed to be reloaded at which point the LEDs operated normally.

If a bunch of folks are noticing this then most likely Ferrari screwed up in one of its updates. It is a software problem and they have to issue an update.

I don’t suggest taking anything apart until checking with the dealer...

I just found out that my steering wheel was added after purchase, so I would assume it needs to have the proxy file up loaded... I just had it in for service and they did a software update but still no lights, going to call about the proxy file and see what's the cost to have it installed.

Update: Just called apparently there is more involved than just hooking it up to computer?? They are checking and working up a quote. Anyone have any idea how much something like this should cost?

If I remember correctly, to have a new board installed cost about $1500 total (~$1000 for the NVO board and then labor). The dealer will need to get the proxy file from FNA. Since your steering wheel was added after, I'm curious what they will charge you. If they say that you require a new NVO board, I would go elsewhere.

Figured I'd give a little back story and an update:

I bought my car used (few weeks ago) and I was told by the previous owner "that he was told when he bought the car that steering wheel was added after purchase and he didn't want to spend the $$ to get the lights working".

BUT I was told by my local dealer/service advisor that steering wheel was on the build sheet and he didn't know why the lights didn't work and it would require sometime to diagnose the problem?? I suggested uploading the "proxy file" as read in this thread and now my lights work!!

Now if I could actually drive fast enough to have them light up without getting arrested LOL....

That's great the dealer was able to get the proxy file. Glad it worked out for you and it didn't seem like it cost anything expect some time.
