As far as battery drain, is it better to leave the car locked (with alarm activated) or unlocked when trickle charging?

I leave all of my car collection unlocked when charging as they are in a secured location. I believe that location is the key factor.

For the modern F-ccars, I recall seeing that there is less parasitic drain on the battery when the car is locked. I would keep it locked. Unless you are parking @ Fort Knox, why make it easier on someone who might have nefarious intentions...T

I keep my car unlocked with the windows down, always in the garage, trickle charging. Amazingly even though my car is over 8 years old it still has that new car smell.

I think the intention of the trickle charger is to replenish the battery charge level regardless of what is decreasing it that's what it does?

As long as the charger provides enough current for the load, it shouldn't matter whether the car is locked or unlocked.

If you’re charging it, it doesn’t matter.

Negligible difference anyway. I suppose someone could prove it by putting a kill-a-watt on it.

But it’s unlocked in my garage anyway...no reason to lock it.

But what if you're going away on vacation for a couple weeks and want to lock it? Will the trickle charge prevent any over-drainage?

Get an automatic battery charger like a C-tek or Battery Tender and it keeps the battery topped off.

    Of course.
But locked or not makes little difference.
2 weeks unattended either way, it would benefit from being trickle charged.

I will state that one thing I make sure I do when I have the battery tender hooked up, I put a note on the front seat that says CHARGER! A couple of times I drove off with the tender still hooked up. Luckily it didn't do any damage but I make sure that doesn't happen again!
