    Hey guys,

I have a 2001 360 and after taking a look today, I see my version of the TCU is 185301 and the hardware does not allow newer software to be flashed.

Found a newer 193263 TCU that I'm thinking about purchasing it to swap. I want to try to see how this is first and if not good enough try the CS software.

If I was just to swap this in my car, do I still need it to be hooked up to an SD2 machine to recalibrate the PIS or should it be ok? I know if flashing the CS software that would require the SD2 machine for recalibration.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm no professional but on mine to get it to work some what correctly had to do a self learn when o first installed and after I flashed it to cs software.

The wrong way: Swap it out, drive it and life goes on. Clutch will wear faster than you can count to 100.
The right way: Swap it out, use SD2 to do a relearn and set PIS. BTW, the TCU has a copy of your odo mileage. Bleed / change out the F1 fluids if you haven't done so for over a year.

... also the final PIS should only be set when the gearbox is nice and toasty. I drove mine for about 20 miles before setting the final PIS value. Otherwise, you'll have a hard time putting it in reverse. A good mechanic should know this right? RIGHT? :D

So even swapping out a 185301 for 193263 TCU still requires the PIS to be set?

To get the best gear shifting performance and driveability you should get the PIS optimised on an SD2 after installation.

Here’s my tip to the OP: Buy the newer one and have it shipped to eric355 in France. He’s a member here.
Eric will flash the CS specs on to it, send it back to you so you can have it installed professionally.

Do a search here and you’ll fine others that have done this already.

The difference in shifting is night & day.

I already PMed Eric but I'm confused. After shipping the TCU to Eric to get flashed, do you still need hook up to a SD2 machine to get the PIS optimized?
