    Hello all

I wondered if you can help me as I am a litte confused. I went to view this 456 today. Lovely car

However I want it because it is a manual, however when I got home I spotted this photo I took that underneath has 456MGTA

This as really confused me. Am I just right in thinking that someone has obviously converted this from its original automatic transmission to a manual transmission

If so then I am guide of gutted as I wanted an original

If it was a manual originally surely it would have just said 456MGT?

    Many thanks

Yours is a different configuration, did they do that for the left hand drives?

Or is it different because it was an auto box?

You may be right. I'm finding these images of RHD which have those buttons:

Maybe its just a replacement badge - surely there's other documentation to show its origin

    Conversion doesn't really make sense

That's very strange. I too would like to know what is going on there. Converting a GTA to manual would be a huge job. Way more than with a 612 F1/a to manual conversion.

Need more pics and a link to the listing. VIN would also be nice to see.

So you think more likely a replacement badge. I have asked for the VIN. That would give me the information I need wouldn’t it? Because it would show what it left the factory as?

I do kind of agree it would be odd and very expensive to convert

    So

I am a past 456MGT owner. And I remember in period, that there was at least one car , that came new from the factory with the wrong model number presented on the center console. ......... I do not know if there were more than one. But there was one.

I know. Strange. But some things Ferrari are.

Luigi, you got any 456M GT badges for the console? No, but have nice 456M GTA badge. You want? Sure, close enough.

    Exactly! It's Italian, not German.

I have got the VIN number and it all checked out for a 456M GT

To be honest I am very used to Porsche’s and I think I am just starting to get used to the Ferrari way...haha

I wonder if I will be able to find the correct badge somewhere to replace it.

Thanks for all your advice and help

The badges are now getting harder to find.
A mis-matched replacement is my guess.

No need to replace anything. Remove the existing badge, cut off the "a" at the end, and you've got what you need. An easy, effective and "clean" solution - in an Italian-kinda-way.

    i highly doubt....

i inquired with eurospares about converting an automatic. they told me it was nothing like swapping a 575/360.

forget the gents name but he said it would be a monster job

dont forget the tranny is the same on a 575 gated or f1

Interesting, thanks. From some informal research I'd done, I was getting the same advice but good to get corroboration. Bit of a shame as 456M GTA's are crazy cheap and I've always loved the look of the 456M, but after a lifetime of manuals (even my 520d daily is a manual!) I don't think I could live with the 4sp auto.

    Could be.
I tried to find an MGTA badge for months, the only one available was $400 and came with the whole console.
However, I could get several GT badges.
    Who knows?
