McLaren 720S Fairfax Crash

The pleasures of driving are available in street-driving form in less powerful cars....

Super cars should be relegated to the track, but their replacement cost often precludes drivers from doing so. Not many want to risk crashing such an expensive car on the track.

 

Great Falls seems to have a high mortality rate for sports cars.

 

The roads are tight and twisty. If someone is coming the other way it’s often a really close 2 lanes. Those roads can be fun but a 2-Way scare me as to wants around the bend.

 

Glad it sounds like he is going to recover. Was a scary sight seeing the helicopter land right next to Katie's.

Holy crap, I was in the dealership minutes before he took delivery. Car was under a giant red tarp with a big bow on it.

 

When one of these cracks that much, I wonder how you open the doors.

It wouldn't surprise me if that CF tub saved his life or maybe his legs.

There was another big McLaren crash in Howard County the weekend prior.

 

Happens a couple times a year right? Didn't a F355 and 599 crash (separately) last year?

I wonder if some sort of bravissimo after being at Katie's is related to the Great Falls crashes. This one was a Saturday morning.

 

Is it me or do there seem to be a disproportionately high occurrence 720S crashes on the street?

 

Seems like it, but one thing it certain. It has an insane power to weight ratio, hair better than the TDF. It's TOO much in the hands of someone stupid enough to try to use it on residential roads. You overwhelm the nannies in a car like that and you're already past the point of no return.

There was also a fatal accident there a year or two ago, S2000 I believe. Some of my employees actually knew the guy, worked at a site where we also have a contract in Sterling. Guy was doing around 75 in a 25.

 

Yellow S2000? I know most the guys in the area, but I never met him.

 

I honestly don't recall. Sorry. My employees knew him, not me personally. I'll try to find out.

Someone else crashed down the street and died that same night in an older vette. Very dangerous roads to speed on. Because it wasnt an exotic it wasnt newsworthy.
