The 328/308 WSM manual appears to list contradictory specs on the size of the bolt and torque spec to differential. The M5 table lists the bolt as M12x1.25 and 9 KgM (65 Ft-Lbs) but Fig 19, page E23 shows 80 NM (59 Ft-Lbs). The actual bolt is M12x1.5 Can anyone verify the correct bolt size and torque spec? I can't verify the bolt size, but can tell you that I used the torque value of 65 ft lbs when changing the diff seals. 6 months later - no leaks, problem, nor weird noises.
No loctite on the threads, no. The bolt does have a locknut that you might want to replace, depending on how flat it's become over the years. I did make use of grey RTV on the bolt and sealant on the outer flange, though. See details here in a nice Birdman tutorial (starts around Step #10). http://www.birdman308.com/service/cv_joints/cv_joint.htm
I think the reason the WSM is so confusing is that it was originally written in Italian and translated to English by someone who didn't speak English
