    yes, the show engines usually are a bit different than the production ones: I saw that on the F106D (208 turbo 1982-85) and F106N (208 turbo 1986-89) engines, two engines I know very well. 308 GT4 production engine cam covers finish is just a cast aluminium color without any finish

    the black finished cam covers was a caratteristic of the "Sprint Pack ".......... the only way to have that part black from factory

    Never heard of the Sprint Pack.

    Interesting. Wonder if it may have the kit.

    I can post more pics if you know what to look for.

    The car is a US spec GTS

    you have to look for P6 cams, 42 DCNF Weber carburetors, Borgo HC pistons, matt black cam cover, four exhaust pipes, stamped Ferrari 16" Speedline wheels fitted with Pirelli P7

    there are a lot of treads about it

    In the "dealer accessory high performance parts" leaflet: look at the page at right, you'll see the camshafts for the eight cylinder engine, and pistons.
    (And wider wheels, and quad pipe exhaust, non-standard on euro cars)

    The pistons in the sprint pack were those from the queen mother V12, forged Borgo with a decent size dome. I believe measure to just under 10:1 compression. I have personally dyno'd the sprint package several times in attempt to make it more street friendly, tweaking cam timing slightly each time. Power was good, but the engine is literally an 'on' or 'off' switch coming on at about 4000rpm. Terrible to drive slow around town. Power was around 220 at the wheels with a dynojet dyno.

    The black cam covers were seen first on a factory display engine displaying the GT4 engine at a show, cannot recall which one.

    Thought the compression was key at 9.5:1, or if you use the P6 cans you don’t get the exhaust gas out and performance is lousy.

    With the pistons, cams and exhaust system, the SP is meant to be very drive able, with an additional surge from about 5k.

    As per the first link I posted, I imagine timing quite key, but the performance doesn’t sound like what you’ve experienced.

    Anyone who is able to make any setup with P6 cams with street manners has my blessing. From altering carb emulsion tubes to various lobe centers I could only get it close ish to having street manners. My final cam setting was 98 degrees intake lobe center and 97 exhaust. Carb jetting worked best with f36 tubes but larger pump jet and smaller air corrector. Ignition timing was about 10 idle and 37 at 6k rpm.

    A great alternative is from Cat Cams. Higher lift cam, a bit less duration, and more aggressive lobe ramp speed so it actually flows a good bit more than a P6 cam but closes the intake valve soon enough so it has reasonable dynamic compression throughout the range, all depending on head flow of course.
