but when you do this you have to push the clutch pedal, now it is important not to push the clutch. but principle you are right :)

So do I push the clutch or not. When jump starting a clutch I usually initially start car with clutch not pushed in cause if I pushed the clutch in the tranny will not be engaged

What I think he is trying to say is. If 2nd is supposedly in neutral, and reverse is engaged and clutch out. Bumping the starter might free up 2nd gear. And don't over work the starter.

so it is 100% the second gear what is blocked because of the non alignment of all other marks and only the marks on second gear is still the same

as I have written in post 73 and also again in 77: don´t push the clutch
but the rear wheels may not touch the floor when you start.

what you mean with: don´t know where the other mumbo jumbo came from??

Where I was typing in the morning and it came out I ring.
I put it in reverse I crank the car. quick cranks. and the result unfortunately is the same. So I’m going to have to take the motor out and see what I can do. It’s most unfortunate because everything looks so clean in there no chip to you though worn out synchros or anything

The car is on a lift so the wheels aren’t touching the ground. When I get back home today I’m going to see if I could spin motor by hand first to make sure gearbox is locked up. Then I’ll try cranking it again
Thank you to everyone out there trying to help you again I really appreciate everything thought I do as much as I can before I start dismantling the gearbox

what has this to do with the gearbox ???

when the engine is cranking with reverse inside then there can not be the 2nd gear inside/blocked also, because if 2 gears are in the engine would never crank except your clutch is down.

and what do you mean under: the result unfortunately the same???
what the same? before you have written that the 2nd gear blocked even all is in neutral. but 2nd gear can not block when you put in reverse and the engine then is cranking.

again: when the engine is cranking when you put in reverse then 2nd gear is never blocked ! ! ! have a look at your marking at the sleeve and synchro 2nd gear. still the same lining? I don´t think so

I didn’t try to turn the motor I just turn the key And let go turn the key and let go. Like I bumped the motor. I will try to crank it a little bit longer I mean the result is still the same when I put it back in neutral the transmission is still in gear it didn’t loosen up the gear
I’ll have to look to see where the markings are so I didn’t look at it last night when I tried it

    sorry billy
just now I don´t understand what you have been doing

I explained exactly what you shall do and you now tell me something about:

I didn’t try to turn the motor I just turn the key And let go turn the key and let go.

so to what position? you have to start the motor with the starter, and this you have to do with the key of course! how do you want otherwise to start the engine???
so when the starter only makes click and not turn the crankshaft and you put in reverse as I told you then it gives to the shafts in the gearbox a bump, and when you do this several times may be the 2nd gear then get loose.

I will try to crank it a little bit longer

it make no sense to activate the starter long time, important is the bump always
and under cranking I understand that you activate the starter and it will turn then the crankshaft. this is for me cranking and not only activate the starter and the crankshaft is not turning. OK?

when the engine turns during starting then the gearbox is not blocked with 2nd gear and only 1 gear inside, so the reverse what I told you to do.

but I think you don´t know what exactly to do to test like I told you. so would be good to get help from a professional directly at your car

Yes I’m starting engine I’m just bumping it though. Not cranking it all the way. I will try that when I get home

I put car in reverse gear and I’m going to crank motor not just bump it to see if I can get it to free 2nd gear.
If gear is still stuck then I’m taking motor out and separating from tranny and sending tranny to wade to do. Cause I have never worked on transmissions before and don’t want to make things even worse

ok, then try a little more but I think to loose the 2nd gear will not work when you already tried several times

but even if you get 2nd gear loose the transmission has to be dismanteled and fixed.

this wade is the member her with name MerlinTech?
would be great if he then could make some photos of what was going wrong. interesting for all here I think

there are as I see it 3 possibilities:
inside the gear the needle bearing stucks
the gear is welded to the spacer (110175 )
the gear is welded to the synchro ( but this can not be because you have written that the synchro moves a little )

please keep us all informed how it is going on please
    and of course : good luck ! ! !

I agree Turbo Joe, second gear needle bearing has welded itself to the sleeve/race. It should still come apart without damage due to the sleeve that the bearing rides on. Hopefully the sleeve will still slide on the pinion shaft as it comes apart.
    # 5 has a #10&12 inside and the whole thing should slide off the pinion.
Hope this helps. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I think billy will send the gearbox to you?
so I´m very interested what the failure is. please keep this thread running when you know more. and post some photos of this unusual failure.
and hopefully the sleeve is not too tight on the layshaft.

I was contacted by the OP and he has it out and is planning to send the transmission to me. I will update the thread as I investigate the cause.

    Me too.
It is like being a death investigator with a new and very strange case. Excited, but a little sad at the death as well.
Maybe not death investigator, maybe a CDC guy with a new bad virus. We can save them, I just have to work out the details of why.
And be sympathetic to the parent of the sick patient.
