I've heard good things about the sales, parts and service staff at Boardwalk Ferrari from all across the country. So many people can't be wrong. I'll be visiting them sometime over weekend on the 23rd because reguarldess of me purchasing a Ferrari or a Maserati I have a hunch these folks are going to be my goto people.

Any update on the status of your car? I was wondering if you ever got an appointment at boardwalk and got the car delivered?

Probably not unless there is enough profit in it. That's why we got tools to manipulate corvette PCM's. You gotta make it worthit for the brain trust to get out of bed. The OEM's meanwhile want everything secret a reason you can't get a service manual from Mercedes until 4 years after the model year. Soon there will only be web based access by dealer mechanics to OEM computer diagnostics. More corporate control is on the horizon.

    Josh,

I'm sorry for all of the trouble you are having. I have a 2012 California with ~15k (maybe less, not 100% sure but I can find out) that I may not need the transmission for. Absolutely nothing is wrong with the car - you can come drive/shift it as much as you want. I'll know this week if I need it or not - if I don't, I'd be happy to sell it to you at a much, much cheaper price than you have been quoted. Feel free to PM me if you are interested.

    Thanks,
    Erik

Yeah I really hope he has his car up and running by now, especially since he is having to make the payments on a busted car. Hopefully we will see the word we have all been waiting for and he will be out cruzing

One of a couple things have happened I'd suspect:

    1) He dumped the car and the brand. Too expensive and he didn't have $30k or whatever to lay out to fix the transmission on the car.
    2) He's still waiting for word back from wherever he sent the car.
    3) He's suing the dealer that sold it to him and he doesn't want to risk commenting on pending litigation.
    4) He's on vacation and/or away for a few weeks.
    5) He's out enjoying his fixed Cali

    I'm hoping it's not #1, but I wouldn't be shocked. I'd be hoping for 5 above.

    IM BACK!

Sorry for such a long delay in updating, but here goes.

First and foremost, the good news. MY CAR IS FIXED AND I HAVE BEEN CRUISING AROUND PROBLEM FREE FOR A MONTH OR SO NOW!!! I am sooooo happy and elated, I cant even describe in words the joy this car brings me when it works the way its supposed to.

So, next I'd like to tell you all who my hero is. His name is Steve Fordham (he is also a poster on this board, I forget his s/n) Him and the crew at Boardwalk Ferrari in Plano are the absolute BEST Ferrari specialists in North America, possibly the world.

He proved that the guys at Ferrari of Houston were either incompetent or just trying to pressure me into spending $40,000+ on a brand new tranny. Either way, shame on them.

First of all, Steve's customer service is beyond excellent. Not just in auto repair, but out of ANY business I've ever dealt with, be it a restaurant, retail, dentist, you name it, I have NEVER been made to feel more welcomed and cared for before. And he NEVER made me feel stupid at all, no question was too dumb for him. Not to mention he would take the time out of his day to talk to me about the car no matter how long I kept him on, and he NEVER once tried rushing me to hurry and get me off the phone.

In a nutshell, this guy TRULY CARES about you and your car. This is a man who LOVES what he does, and his passion for wanting to help people resolve their Ferrari issues is blatantly evident.

I really believe he gets extreme joy to see people get their cars back fully up and running, and that is the mark of excellence.

He was extremely honest with me, did not try to upsell me, and he got my Cali fixed for what I believe to be the cheapest possible solution.

    About the issue and repair:

So going through the thread, I'm sure you all know what the cars problems were. The abridged version is, basically with no rhyme or reason I would suddenly lose all my even number gears, and get a clutch overheat warning. The codes were pulled by Ferrari of Houston, and it clearly showed their were faults with the SAP and Speed sensors. They told me they couldn't just replace those sensors, that I would have to buy a whole new gearbox, which thru them is in excess of FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for the entire repair. I guess they thought I had sucker written on my forehead.

Well Steve was able to replicate the faults (since sometimes the issue would go away and drive prefectly) by performing a certain drive sequence and he pinpointed what he needed to repair and developed a game plan.

Well here is the best part. Instead of making me shell out close to ten grand for all the repairs, he was able to get all of this done for UNDER 5 GRAND!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! We went from $40,000 to have a working car, down to 5. I think he truly felt sorry for me after he heard my story, how badly I got screwed over. and knowing how bad I wished I had a working Ferrari.

He saved me about $35,000 from what the other dealership was quoting me. I cant even.

So after him dropping the tranny, swapping out the parts and even repairing a seal that cracked, I finally got my dream car back to Houston, ready to ROCK AND ROLL.

So as of now, the car is running perfectly and I have had ZERO issues since.

YOU ARE THE MAN STEVE, THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY LIFE SO MUCH MORE AMAZING!

And to end this, I must suggest to everyone, if you are having any issues with your Ferrari, Boarwalk Ferrari is THE place you want to take your baby to, they will no doubt get you all fixed up. They are the best in the business, bar none.

My heart goes out to you dude. Look up my thread "Tranny crash on 13 Cali30." After 500 miles of driving my 10k mile purchase, the speed sensor went out and my dealer, Miller Motorcars, fixed it and paid 40% of the $12k repairs out of good will. Labor 45hrs at $199 plus $2100 for the sensor kit plus enclosed shipping to and from Greenwich, Conn. It was MAJOR surgery; see my pics on the thread. I sure don't know where these guys get these $7/8k repairs. Look back at the reply from the Ferrari tech, he knows what the deal is. I would consider retaining a good attorney. Good luck young man! Had a similar problem with my 2009 Cali. Turned out to be a major repair of the gearbox requiring shipping the car to the UK from Norway. Luckily I had a warranty from the dealer! Best of Luck...

The original diagnosing dealer should have called it the "Stingray" repair...the cost they attempted to hit the OP with would buy you a 3 year old, LIGHTLY used Corvette!!!

I think the thing to remember is that not all Ferrari dealers have a tech trained to rebuild the DCT and as a result reccomend replacement. It’s quite obvious that you should shop around for a dealership that can do the repair, especially if you are paying out of pocket, as the repair plus shipping more then likely will be well under a new DCT cost plus labor.

Luckily these got much better as they progressed and I have yet to hear of a speed sensor failure in a California t, though there was one fchatter that reported a failure of some sort on his 2015 Cali t.

At the end of the day these are fairly reliable cars but like with any Ferrari you gotta know the quirks of each model.

My first post... I just read the whole story this morning. Congratulations Josh for hanging in there, getting it fixed, and now thoroughly enjoying the car! I was just surfing around trying to decide which model might suit me best. I spent a day driving a 488 spider in Italy this summer, did the factory tour and visited the museums. I am hooked! This thread was a great eye opener for me. Lessons learned at Josh's expense... Get a PPI, buy from a Ferrari dealer with some warranty worked into the deal and spend more time researching HERE. What a great community! Kudos to BF for helping out a new owner, almost makes me want to spend money there exclusively. Again, best of luck Josh with your awesome new car, hope it gives you many more miles of smiles!

Hate to resurrect an old post but given that this issue is literally IDENTICAL to mine, I wonder how the repair held up in the intervening years?

what’s the new thinking on Cali DCT sensor repair / replacement / longevity?

Out of curiosity, for those who repair their DCT due to the failed sensor, will the same issue eventually come back?
