It seems my 360 will not go into 2nd when attempting at high rpm (6000+)! It is literally like there is a block in the way - the lever will slide into gear when the revs drop though. Changing at lower rpm is absolutely perfect, as are all the other gears. The car has a new clutch, new bearing, new gearbox oil, and has had the gear linkage removed and greased / aligned etc. So what else could it be?! Really ruins the enjoyment of the car! Anybody had a situation like this before?
Yes, I had the same situation. Turns out mine had a wet clutch. Oil had leaked out of the end of the crank... My clutch only had a few hundred miles on it.
I would have thought wrong oil type ..causing sync to not work properly, bad adjustment on linkage, or mounts worn out and causing misalignment When you depress clutch at the higher rpm ..does the rpm immediately fall ? Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk
Mine was exactly as stated above. Once the RPM’s dropped a little then it would complete the shift. Once the oil leak was fixed and a new clutch installed the problem was fixed. Can’t be sure that the same thing is going on with the OP’s car. That’s just what turned out to be the problem with my car.
Mine would not go into 2nd gear..... changed the shifter bushing to hill eng al replacment and all good. GL.
Mine did actually have the same oil leak, however the seal has been replaced and the clutch is new but still the issue is present
Apparently my car also has this bushing - do you know how I can identify if it genuinely does or not? Or are the bushings not visible?
Just had a quick drive and noticed that when the gear lever is in a neutral position there is left - right play of around 1cm before you need to put pressure on the lever to move towards a gear... Can anyone confirm if this is normal? I am assuming that it isn’t which leads me to believe the shifter bushing is worn?!
My shifter has about the same play... the shifter sits in line with 4th / 5th gate while it sits with no pressure applied to it. I have no issues with it going into any gear.
There should be no play at all. I had maybe 3mm of total play before I replaced mine-- so I think 1cm is a lot. Replaced my bushing and now there is no play whatsoever. It immediately made shifting a lot more precise and less janky. I can only imagine how much worse shifting might be with 1cm of play.
Might be a worn motor or trans mount as well but shifter bushing is the first thing to check. All it takes is a hairline crack to cause troubles like yours. Very common problem.
is the correct Hill P/N 174967? Thank you Craig http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/174967?search=bushing
My stock plastic shifter bushing was not cracked or visibly broken... it only had the slightest wear. And to my joy the hill shifter bushing solved my sometimes impossible shifting into 1st and 2nd. This mechanism does not allow for any slop. My shifter had zero play after the repair the spring put the shifter in preload.
