Having spent a long time searching through this forum, I cannot find the answer...

Where 16 inch wheels a factory option for a U.K. 1980 dry sump 308 GTB?

See photo of the wheels in question.

    Much appreciated

As far as I know. 16 inch was not offered until Ferrari moved to Goodyear in F1 two or three years later.
83 QV had a few 16 inch from new later in the model year. By 84 it was all 16 inch.

    (Thank god)

In 1979, if not earlier, the GTB and GTS were offered with 16” wheels and Pirelli tyres as an option in the UK. I don’t know about RotW but assume was not just a UK offering.

Wonder what those temp spare wheels with the tire are worth these days.

I have one that I bought to give me more room up front when I travel.

Brilliant thanks so much for the info, I hope these wheels are on the original
    Order sheet then.

Sorry for so many questions but I’m looking at this car tomorrow(1980 dry sump with 59k miles)

It’s a nice car, I’m red with magnolia / black interior... but the car has had 10 previous owners including the dealer as a demonstrator car. Is this too many owners for the car, making it hard to sell on ever? Perhaps I should start a new post to gauge opinion.

Its a forty year old used car - what do you expect ?

Each owner has averaged four years and fifteen thousand miles - how can that be too many ?

You are correct of course. There wouldn’t much chance of finding a 40 year old virgin woman (not sure I’d want to either!). Thanks.

On UK Registration documents you get the number of previous keepers NOT owners. At one time, changing the registration plates could add a previous keeper to the number and the DVLA count may not be correct anyway. My GT4 (which I bought in 1985) had 7 previous keepers according to the V5, but a little research showed that 2 were due to changes to and from a personalised plate, and 2 were a figment of the DVLA's computer's imagination, which I got them to correct to 5 previous registered keepers (actually just 3 previous owners). It might be harder to research previous ownership now that the DVLA have stopped their £5 search service though.

The 16" wheels were a factory option. Like Steve already said, they are in the 6/80 GTB/S parts book.
The only thing, what makes me wonder, is the black size lettering on yours.
On my original magnesium wheels it's cast embossed.

On my ex-16" set too, but they were a set made by Cromodora, and I'm having a memory that the other 16" wheel manufacturers that Ferrari used (Speedline?, Campagnolo?) used the decals (as do the KN reproductions IIRC). In fact, just noticed that the decal on the OP's wheel is 8x16, but the center structure is protruding like a 7" front wheel (and not like your stock 8x16" with the flush center and the groove going around) = KN 8x16" reproduction wheel (not stock F).

The casting of letters were on the Q.V. model onwards I believe.

Thanks for this and the photos Martin, I have yesterday discovered for sure from Tony Willis who actually sold this car in 1980 (was his demonstrator at Coopers Leicester) that the car was originally supplied with 7x14 wheels, deep spoiler and Ac.

Now I need to check if they still used XWX tyres.

This is something I never knew, the car has had two plate changes, currently on a private plate, I want to ask DVLA to go back to its original age related plate.

I shall dig further into the file and hopefully find out it has had two less owners that I thought! Thanks for this info

The DLVA allowed me to put my GT4 back on it's original plate although it had been on the age related replacement they gave it when I bought it for most of its life.

I've found the service from the DVLA to have gone downhill significantly over the past few years, so expect it to be slow and frustrating and for them to lose everything you send them.
