I was concerned I wouldn't like the 488, so I specced it more for resale with the intention of also keeping my 458. Then the 458 sold immediately and the 488 was held up in port for 60 days.

Had I to do it again, I would do white, black interior with a sprinkle of white leather, gold rakes with white centre strip, stitching, horsies and piping.

The rosso scuderia is nice, don't get me wrong, but it just seems a little out there. It's the fifth or sixth red Ferrari I've had and I think I'm just over that.

But please don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, it's a brilliant car. At the setting above race, I can get all loosey goosey in the rear without getting into trouble.

I've driven it every day since I got it.

I am on my third black Ferrari and I specced mine almost identical to the 458 spider I had with a few differences. I went with yellow calipers , yellow tach and Daytona seats with alcantara inserts. Also I went with Daytona Nero exterior instead of Nero. I will say the 488 spider is an amazing rig and it’s a blast to drive. Maybe I’ll see you on the road sometime as I’m in Sarasota. Best , Kirk.

Have driven both hard on track. 570s was fast and felt capable but wasn't holding up well under the conditions. For eg the brakes worked up a slight shudder/shimmy under high speed hard braking. The suspension felt a bit soft/vague compared to 488 and the lag meant working halfway above the rev band all the time. In 488 you could come into the same corner even a gear up and power out using the full flexibility of the rev range.....sooo much better!!!

What also really stood out was how much more robust 488 felt no matter what was thrown at it. Overall 488 drove like it was next level to 570.....much better car to drive. The engines were also worlds apart - no comparison. 570s is a great car but it's no 488 regardless of the numbers. On all accounts 600LT sounds like it will be a big improvement.

Excellent. Thanks for this. This is the overall feeling I'm getting on the 458. They're a great car, reasonable maintenance costs, and many driving them on a daily basis.

There's a couple interesting examples here in town, one Rossa Corsa with around 17K miles (http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Ferrari/458+Italia/MAPLE+RIDGE/British+Columbia/19_10731067_/)

and another 2011 at the dealership in Giallo Triplo Strato with a mere 1500 miles on it. http://www.ferrarimaseratiofvancouver.com/vehicle/2011-ferrari-458-italia-c0080/

Any concern with these being under driven, seals, gaskets drying out etc...? Anything specific to note about the 2011's?

Again, sorry for morphing this thread into a general discussion of the 458. I've now been into the "Most 458s Discussions" threads looking at oil changes etc...

Don’t quote me on the numbers, and not sure how it splits globally, but here in the UK 458’s sales ratio coupe to spider was roughly 85% coupe to 15% spider. When compared to the previous model the F430 which was more 60% coupe to 40% spider....on the F430 the spider was only 8k option so people simply said yes, not the case on the 458 which was more like 20k+ more, so in the UK a decent spec 458 spider is rather rare(ish) and commands more than the standard car by quite some margin (for the right car) given the slight rarity, and all the arguments for a 458, mostly the noise a 458 makes, I think a spider which gives you all the sound (due to the open top) makes the best sense for a 458 and is a keeper for sure....great choice of Ferrari..

Agreed, I think the last time I looked there were only 20 or so cars in the entire UK Ferrari dealer network, one or two 2014 cars and nothing any later, high spec cars are becoming rarer as more people here buy into the last N/A thing.

You should sell the car immediately, only for the next owner to not sell it back to you when you realize your mistake. That will teach you a lesson to keep the car!

I came from an AMG GTs to a 458 and while their Top Gear lap times are similar, the cars simply aren't. The 458 sounds so much better. And it responds like I want a car too. Unlike the AMG, trail breaking actually rotates the car. And the traction control unit has so much more play.

In two years, I had eight warranty claims on the GTs. At least if the 458 has eight repairs, I can chalk it up to being Italian. I don't know what to say about the AMG.

But I do have an old C63 that I'll never sell. I don't particularly care what the maintenance costs are, that car is a keeper.
