My workshop forgot to reinstall the black plates inside the rear grill which got me thinking. Would we benefit from better ventilation by removing these plates? It kind of looks cool too when the muffler is exposed.

i removed mine a long time ago. Plus i installed scoops with screens under the car like the scuderia has to push air into the engine bay and then out the back where your referring to

Guess I was thinking you were talking about the plates where the tailpipes exit the bumper. What plates behind the grill are you talking about?

    Great question.

I've always wondered what would happen if I remove those plates too and why Ferrari Engineers installed them in the first place.

It has to be there for a reason, but I dont know what its for.....and what would happen if we remove it...

Both are now removed. One thing i can think off is protection against water coming in when driving in rain or when the car is washed. I don´t drive it in the rain and just make sure not to spray water directly into the grill when washing. I think this will make a significant improvement on the engine bay ventilation.

Interesting. I never noticed, but mine are missing/removed and I do have the challenge grill. No adverse effects. I got so used to opening the hood on my 427 S/C to let heat escape to save the paint, I now do it on my 360. I'm curious, does anyone else follow this procedure?

Yes. I open my rear hatch to let the car cool down.

I removed the vent blocks and I too open the rear hatch after a drive.

Never opened my bonnet when warm and no issues what so ever. Engine cools down fast. Got a engine bay full of carbon as well.

First thing I do when I get home from a drive is to pop the engine bay hood open to let the heat escape.

That stops the engine bay heat from cooking all the plastic parts.

When I park the car in my garage, I open the engine lid to ventilate the heat. It seems like a reasonable thing to do without risk.

Mine have always been removed and no issues. Maybe Ferrari thought being able to see the muffler from behind wasn't desirable, can't see why they would help anything if they were for more than anything but aesthetics.

Removed mine ages ago, no ill effects. Also open the engine hood when I get home. But I check engine oil level and check for leaks every time. Helps warm up the garage in winter too.

Ferrari calls these things "Deflettore retroriflettente posteriore" (Rear Grid Reflection Deflector), P/N 68854700 (RH) and 68854800 (LH). I will assume they are there to keep light reflected off that shiny muffler from blinding the following driver. I don't really know. I removed them from my F430 in the belief that doing so might help airflow through the engine bay. I also really like LorenzoR's idea of installing scoops under the car. Anything to aid engine cooling.

I've had mine off for about 2 months now. Reduced engine bay heat? Perhaps..... Nothing really big or noticeable.

I have Kline Innovation exhaust. They are smaller and much lighter than stock, they are shiny but they sit low inside the engine bay so there is no possibility of blinding the drivers behind me.

I will keep it off for now, until I hear something different or a reason why it should go back on.

took mine off 10 years ago, I think their purpose is prevent the rear grill getting too hot and potentially cause a heat burn to someone touching it but its fine
