I´m looking for a pair (right and left side) of Smith fan blowers for Dino 246 GT. I think the parts no. is FHM 120 3/01 code 322?! Was this particular model only put into the Dinos or into other cars too? I´m not looking for the later version (late E-series) from Spal… Image Unavailable, Please Login
http://www.classicastons.com/aston-martin-parts-and-spares/aston-martin-db5/cooling-parts/ Mathias - looks the same minus the lower bracket?
thanks Tony... look the same... the two holes for the DB5 mounting bracket are just closed on the Dino ones…
I got one here, they do a nice job remanufacturing these. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/ah/heater.htm I think for left vs right, you can swap the motor to the other side but best to ask.
The units on Tony's link are the exact same items as those on Andrew's. Ashley Hinton makes them for the trade and supplies various marque specialists. Classic Astons appear to offer them at the best price.
just want to put up some general research I just did on the Smith heater fan motors…. the case seems always the same on 206 and 246 GT`s, same as Aston Martin DB5/6... 206 GT and 246 L-series just had one heater fan original at the right side of the car…. looks like the 206 GT`s had the heavy version FHM 5452/04, L-series #00962 and #01100 the lighter version FHM 1203/01 with M-series two fans originally, right and left side…. early M-series #01266 and #01274 had one each FHM 5452/04 and FHM 1203/01... why did they use different ones? if you can check on your Dinos which fan motors are fitted in your cars… would be very interesting to know… as Ferrari has no records and nothing precise in the parts booklets… late E-series Dinos switched to "SPAL"
FHM 5452/04 twice as heavy as FHM 1203/01, steel fan wheel…. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
FHM 1203/01 very light... plastic fan wheel Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My memory on these fans is hazy, but I recall the switchover from metal to plastic fan blade units happened in the late '60s. I know my 1967 MGB-GT had a metal fan blade unit. There were also differences between polarity - earlier models cared about positive and negative connection for rotation direction, and later models didn't (and didn't have that little rotation sticker, which you can readily buy if you need one).
I´m actually looking for a FHM 1203/01 with white fan for right side… or just the white fan only will do too...
Do have and any E-series owners any information on the fan blowers installed in their Dinos? Smith or Spal?
So I'm tearing apart #02750 and the RH blower is a Smiths 1203/01 and the LH blower is a SPAL. The car was repainted red in 1978 and I see overspray on both blowers, could this be original?
Likely a replacement in the first 5-6 years of the car for the available SPAL units of the time. I would very much doubt mismatched units were fitted at the factory.
Yep seems likely, however the new front Matthias mentions came around #03500 so was wondering if they were running out the old Smiths blower stock. Anyone else with a car in the range 02750-3500 know what they have on both sides? EDIT: I see Ian said above 3050 had smiths so mine was changed...
I am the second owner of USA Dino 05702 Feb '73 prod date and it has two SPAL fans. Based on condition of the unit, surrounding area in car, fasteners and wiring I have a 95% belief that these are original. My other Euro-Italy Dino, 05082, Oct 1972 prod date has one of each fan and I have little confidence either is original Tough job to sort out Ferrari suppliers historical quirks, hope this helps you Matthias
