Starting with the simplest remedy: Are you waiting for the OK to appear before pressing the start button? It takes a few seconds to appear after turning the key.

This happened to me once and I freaked out as a new owner.

I wasn't keeping my battery on a tender.

Eight months later, never happened again.

I also wait for the OK now.

Are you driving the car very often? When I don't drive my 16M for a while, the first start is very strange. Car starts, sort of. Thinks about stalling, but then doesn't and eventually (like 15 seconds) starts to act normal.

When I drive the car frequently, this never happens.
