New to the Ferrari Community. Just bought a 2010 Cali for some weekend cruising and fun while replacing a 2008 911 Convertible.

I had a fabspeed aftermarket exhaust on the 911 and really miss the sound. The Cali sounds good and I don't want to spend the cash on another aftermarket exhaust right now. Too many house projects to pay for.

I've read a few threads that keeping the actuators open can help. Does that go for the 2010 Cali too?

Also I read this from an old thread...

"I recently bought my California love everything about it ! I did however wanted a bit more sound from the exhaust, I managed to find the vacuum line leading to the rear of the car ,(not sure if this has been posted before) and would like to share it for those looking to open up the exhaust flaps in 5 minutes. It’s located under the hood on the passenger side fender look for the line with the red tape, simply unplug the line and cap it."

    Does this work?

    Thanks all!

Yes it works. The none turbo such as yours sounds better than the T from the start. Opening up the flaps gives you a much better sound from the start rather than from about 3000 rpms and up. On the turbo model it's a little harder, we need to get it from the rear about 30 minutes give or take. Love the sound of the non turbo better but the performance of the T.
Either way, ENJOY...You have a great car.

Thanks Wreck. Yeah, I love the '10 Cali so far. It's exactly what I was looking for; a grand tourer but with balls, a head-turner, but not "over the top."

In my younger days (all relative I know), I would get obsessed with mods (G35, IS300, 911), but with the Cali, I feel like it has everything I want (except maybe a more pronounced growl at lower RPMs).

I'll try this and have nothing to lose. I can always reverse the process pretty easily.

    Thanks for the reply!

Yes, definitely 2 different cars but pretty sweet that you kept both!

My wife and I needed an SUV for an expanding family lol. I tried to convince her to get the Panamera, but she hated how it looks. I love it!

The fact that they are so different, is one of many reasons I love our 911 (997.2S) and Cali (2011). Two different - and great ways - to scratch the same itch!

Congrats, David, on the new Cali, and welcome. Post up some pics if you have not done so...T

My '10 Cali is being shipped and I'd be interested in hearing about your experience. Did it do the trick and satisfy your needs for the growl? Could you please post some pictures of line with the red tape before and after you cap it? Lastly, is there any potential damage for leaving it unplugged permanently?
    Thanks!

In my opinion non turbo cars sound better than the new T.
It will not hurt anything by leaving it disconnected other than owners of T cars like my self when we hear yours. Enjoy it

So I finally removed the line under the hood on Saturday morning. It took me 5 seconds to remove and plug with a screw. I drove it around for a half hour afterwards and was pretty sure I noticed a difference in the sound below 3k RPM's. Especially in higher gears and down shifting. But I wasn't sure if it was psychological or real.

On Sunday my wife and I jumped in the car and took it for a spin to breakfast. Just a preface here...She hates the car haha! She doesn't like loud cars and hates anything close to the ground.

We were driving not even 2 minutes and she hit my arm and said "you said you weren't going to make any modifications to the car!!"

    My reaction? "YES!!! It worked!"

I told her I didn't make any mods, but just unplugged a vacuum line which she then speculated that "line is for something, right?" Anyway.

But the bottom line is that it works! More growl and more often. Also, I do get more slight backfiring at low RPMs but I kind of like that.

    Easiest mod ever.

Sounds wonderful! Can you post a picture of it disconnected and plugged? Knowing myself, I will do it backwards and create $20k of subsequent damage.

My California got delivered today. I have someone coming by to pick up the wheels and paint them black. Next, I'll be doing this! How does the screw stay in there without thread?

So I did this Mod on my 10 as well about 4 months ago - Very happy with sound at startup and low RPM's. However, here is the caveat: I recently took a longer trip about 200 miles and at 85-90MPH, if you take foot off gas, you will hear a continuous drone that goes away when you depress gas even a little bit. This behavior is typical of straight pipes. Good thing is that the whole mod is easily reversible. Next time before an interstate trip, I am inclined to reverse it temporarily as that drone gets to you on long journeys. You can hear it specially if cruise is on and radio is off.

ageed. I drove my Cali for a longer distance this weekend and it did sound like a straight pipe hum (drone). It's funny, but with the top down, I love it. Top up, it can get a little obnoxious. You're right though - the mod takes 2 seconds to reverse lol. I love the growl at lower RPMs and when I don't want it, I'll take the screw out!

I got a white one. I decided against getting the black wheels after seeing everything in person. I LOVE THE DAMN BEAST!

Nice! I have a white Cali too. - Bianco Avus over Iroko

It's funny, I considered powder coating my wheels gloss black, but when I did a mock-up, I didn't like it. I have a white hardtop, not black, so I think the stock wheel color was best.

Did you plug the vacuum line yet?

I wanted to get a good idea of how it sounds before I plug the vacuum line. It sounds marvelous and I'll probably give the plug a shot tomorrow.
My hardtop is wrapped in black so the black wheels might be more suitable but I doubt I'll have the top up much. I'll enjoy the car as it is for now and save that option for when I get an itch to do something.
I love the Iroko interior. Post some pics when you can.

Yeah, I think the black wheels looks fantastic with a black hard top.

I bought my Cali 2 months ago. It's a 2010 with 17k miles. I will put MANY more miles on it. My first 'rari and I love it.

I wanted a fun, fast car to enjoy on the weekends but there's no way with 2 other car daily use vehicles I was going to buy new. I was not set on a Ferrari and actually looked at a used Gallardo and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I almost bought the Aston but decided to check out a used Cali at the local Ferrari dealership. One test drive and I bought it! Not only was it in pristine condition, it is the best of both worlds; a grand tourer (comfort) and a supercar. How can you go wrong?

Here's a couple pics. (I whited out my face because I don't want to be surfing pornhub someday and see my face superimposed in an orgy haha!

I realized I don't have any interior pics. I'll take one tonight or tomorrow and post. The Iroko interior is one of the best parts of the car!

Anyone think this trick will work for the Portofino? My hunch is no...

Any other ideas on how to make the exhaust valves open at lower revs? I’ve thought about after market exhaust but kind of bothers me spending £200k+ on a car then replacing the exhaust...
