Here is 14903 noted as a December 1971 build on the plate. >

The Daytona I was commenting about was close being 14909 so also 1971 build. Here is the plate for that Daytona 14909 here >

The Daytona 14909 with it's silver nose. >

There may be later Daytona 1971 factory builds that also got the silver nose but I don't have any record for them...

This ex. Bill Harrah 1971 365 GTB/4 had it's silver nose feature replicated when the car was restored in it's original Rame Met. paint color to. Serial number was 14169 with a build date of MARCH 1971.

    Thanks.
So both have been confirmed/documented(?) having come from the factory with silver nose and the ***09 is still wearing Scaglietti shot paint ?
And you're convinced all or at least all US-delivery pop-up headlight examples built up to these VINs came with silver nose ?
Do you or some one here by chance know how large were Daytona production batches on average/per year ?

Yes 909 was a nice original Daytona that I saw in 1982 and had original paint with the silver nose and original interior. However 909 was sold many years later and then restored in a bright yellow without the silver nose...

14895 for example is restored without the silver nose and it is also a December 1971 build for the USA. In many cases new owners want the later solid color for the body that does not date the car in the way that the silver nose finish does.

14903 was restored and not a car I saw in person but merely used it to illustrate the December 1971 build date reference.
With the way that factory paint colors are switched to something different the silver for the nose is a minor detail that few owners follow up with during a restoration. The silver nose was introduced for the FNA cars of 1971. Then for whatever reason fell out of favour at the factory at some point after that. I don't know a specific cut off date. However the new Daytona deliveries I saw for 1971 Daytona builds at the dealership all came from the factory with the silver nose that year.
The 'condo find' Canadian Daytona 14385 built to a euro spec also had the silver nose.

So it would be likely that the "certain" U.S.-delivery example w/Dec. '71 DOM & lower than 14900 VIN I'm "almost" finished with came with silver nose ?
Evidence to that had been erased or at least "muddied" quite early on, since the original color had been chanced to silver(!), perhaps as early as when the car was still "new".

From the 1971 build Daytona models I have seen I think the silver nose paint could certainly be justified during that year. No way to know for sure that every Daytona received that silver finish but I have never seen a FNA market build without the silver nose back then ie. 1971.

Another example with the factory silver paint for the nose was featured in an article by Chuck Queener. The red 1971 Daytona was an early Spyder requested by Dr. Bruce Sand through Hollywood Sport Cars. The Spyder was built in ten weeks! This was at a time when Ferrari was getting too many coupes from Scaglietti. It was decided every fourth coupe would be built as a convertible to slow production. The author was told Ferrari planned to build only 15 of the Spyder versions of the Daytona. This production number changed when other customers heard about the new Spyder and the build continued through 1973.

Perhaps it's the picture angle, but looks like they might've missed some major details. I assume the nose got painted silver though, right ?

While not Daytona or "Vintage" proper, I wonder how many new car buyers receive production update photos like this of their pending order... ;)
