    Which model F-car?
    What year?
    What transmission?
    How many miles?
Has the filter been replaced before?
If so, how miles on the free in the pic?
What brought you to the point of changing the filter in the first place? Was it making noise? Was it shifting okay?

If your car has high mileage and the filter has never been replaced, but everything feels and works fine, then that could be normal. Metal shavings early in a transmission's life is normal.

Find out if it is metal or bits of what? I found sealant goo in mine the first time I did the transaxle. It was from the assembly and colored kinda blue/white. If metal bits, I would be worried. Copper? metal? hope it isn't syncro material. HTH

The filter has obviously done its job. If not metal, I would either clean filter or replace and refill fluid. Drive it and check again in 500 to 750 miles. Just my 2 cents.

Doesn't seem to be that uncommon if filter isn't attended to on a regular basis

The color of the debris being black makes me think it some type of plastic or rubber seal material. I have had old engines that the plastic valve stem seals broke down and pieces ended up in the oil pan. I removed the valve covers and could see that some of the valve stem seals were in pieces.

I did my f430 F1 tranny a month ago and it had bits of metal but less than half what you had.
My tranny magnetic plug had a thick layer of metalic goo.
All of the above are normal.

Clean up, reinstall, and check it again next year. I would bet that it’s never been serviced and will be clear next time you check it.

The only thing that makes me think it may have been checked before is the fact that you don’t have the white sealing remnants in the filter that are commonly seen.

I bought my well serviced CS with 6k miles and it had the white sealing debris in the filter.
The car now has 9k miles and I’ve checked it 2 more times since purchase. No debris ever returned. But, I never had the black bits that you have.

I think it will be fine.

This looks typical of where the inside of a rubber trans fluid hose is breaking down and crumbling apart. Have had snow plow hydraulic ram’s packing/seals leave the same looking residue in its screen filter upon their demise during overtravel, as well as when the hydraulic lines degrade from the inside. Their valve bodies have o-ringed spools controlling oil flow, and when debris goes through the system, or just with age and wear, those o-rings can come apart and make similar black crumble.

Do a double fluid change. Drive with this fluid for a few hundred to get all the gunk suspended, change again. Take to independent if you want to save money. Cheap insurance as compared to a rebuild.

Reasonable to me. I get similar, plus power steering fluid change, coolant, and brake fluid, along with engine air filter and cabin filter for $2k at Ferrari of Seattle (with FCA discount).
