It's next Tuesday evening. I'll post photos. I loved the book. I thought the author did an exceptional job capturing Enzo the man, with all of his foibles, in addition to the world famous entrepreneur.
It is fantastic. Made a hotel reservation for next Friday so I can get to the museum for the demo days and the author's presentation without a mad rush down the PA Turnpike Saturday morning. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My favorite car there actually isn't a Ferrari, it's the "hippie" Porsche 917LH that finished 2nd at LeMans in 1970. (That's not the original, which was eventually scrapped. This is an identical 917 that was painted in that scheme later on.)
Attended the book signing last night. The author gave an excellent presentation on the book, how he wrote it, and stories about Enzo. Very cool event. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
^^^ Nice! Any remarks that stood out to you? Thanks for the front row seat to the event. BTW that 8C is gorgeous.
I pointed out that the book reveals more about Ferrari the man, than the cars. He said Enzo was a very complex man. I asked if he had any trouble getting information on Enzo’s ‘2nd family’. He said Piero was quite forthcoming with all the details concerning Enzo’s dual life. There was some fascinating discussion surrounding Enzo’s death, and the visit by the Pope. Enzo’s relationship with his drivers was fraught with drama as well. There was additional discussion about Enzo’s desire to be a journalist. Great stuff!
Looking forward to the Pennsylvania event. Have not finished the book but I did cheat and jump to the end that movingly describes his final days and funeral arrangements. Dal Monte weaves all the threads together from drivers, engineers, competitors, family with some social and political history of Italy. It is the real deal and I am devouring it in big chunks. I am at the point just before the death of Bandini and after the firing of his entire management staff. Anyway enough of my 2 cents worth - Buy the book.
We asked him about the chapter concerning Enzo’s death. Dal Monte said he didn’t write it last even though it was the last chapter. Said it was very difficult to write. One of the most significant things that was said last night has stuck inside my head. Since 1929, Ferrari has had only 3 men leading the corporation. Enzo, Montezemolo and Sergio Marchionne. Think about that tidbit for a moment. Talk about a singular vision and leadership at the top. I don’t believe any other car company has had that kind of continuity. Ever.
Well, now Evro is reporting a delay until November 2019. Amazon has cancelled my order and presumably all other standing orders for the book, but I assume they'll accept new orders later in the year. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I got the same message. They'll probably offer it again....at a higher price, perhaps. The author is a member here. Perhaps he'd like to give us some information.
I think you must be a time traveler as the publisher's web site says the book will be released in September, 2019.
