Not sure if Indycar dangled this carrot to get him to come over full time or perhaps gave this to him as a way to make up for his massive pay cut or simply a sign of Fernando's business sense, in any of these cases, it's an interesting move. Although this Alonso moving to Indycar story has run dry the past month or so this throws some fuel on a dim fire.

Nigel Mansell did the same thing(UK rights) when he moved to Indycar, he made a bundle on it.

The lack of news lately, until this little nugget, makes me think that the deal to have the McLaren brand
involved isn't working out with Andretti and Alosno will end up with Penske.

    Just a hunch.

They're likely prohibited from making any official announcement until the end of the F1 season.

Yeah the Indycar journalists who would know (Robin Miller, Marshall Pruett) have brought zero news/rumors to the table the past month, so there's a strong possibility that they've been told not to say anything until McLaren is ready. Robin admitted he knew Fred was running Indy last year a month or so before it was announced so it could be the same case here. As far as Penske goes, it makes so much sense for Roger with his business interests in Europe to hire Alonso, it's a no brainer, but both Roger and Cindric have denied it. The Roger of 25 years ago would do it, the older Roger seems to play it a little more safe. Roger did admit once that he wanted Nigel to drive for him, so maybe he sees Alonso as his 2nd chance to get a top talent in his car. The whole mess of Honda not willing to help out McLaren in Indycar, makes the path clear to go with Chevy and Penske. Many are surprised though that there have been no rumors of hirings of mechanics or engineers, normally that's a good sign that a team is forming, some have theorized McLaren will transition a few of their F1 staff to Indycar. A lot of questions, still little answers.

Don't expect we'll know until after Abu Dhabi.
