My 570 was due for its first service...... which amounts to an oil change and some checking for $1500. Among a few things I do, I own a performance tuning company. My guys are good. This should be a breeze. Easiest oil change I have done in years! I do know why they seal the engine up. It's not pretty. Mac just doesn't do the engine jewelry like Ferrari does... but man does it get the job done! It would be a nice touch if we could actually buy a workshop manual and a dx tool, but oh well. Art v Industrial design. The Ferrari is worthy of display, but the Mac really gets the job done! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for posting those pictures. I’m interested in a Maclaren, and have found their hidden engines odd. Now I know why. By the way, I think that this is engine jewelry: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool engine. I think half is they want to discourage non-dealers working on them. The other half is they spent all their money on performance and none on the fluff.
I agree. Which means they spend money where it really counts. I think the interior of a 570 is much better than a 458/488. The dynamics, too. Although I think both sound weak. That engine above is my supercharged and unmuffled Pur Sang Bugatti 35B, and it has now spoiled me for engine sound. Matt
You should do a "how to" vid and post it on YouTube. Its great to see people working on their own cars.
I never think to do that. I don't know how many timing belt changes I've done on many different Ferraris and I barely will take a picture, unless I need to remember something. I guess we are too busy turning wrenches to take the time to video, but it always sounds like a good idea. I don't know how many times at the end of a job I think, "I should have taken a video". The oil change was literally ridiculously easy.
Next oil change... (race ramps are brilliant!) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
From what I was told from a Mac mechanic, the first service is mostly due to doing programming updates. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes but not only, updates are always performed as well as an entire check list of items, and most of the fluids are changed. .
Thanks for posting! I too am going to do my first oil change. I know the dealer has to reset the oil-change-reminder light, but maybe I can talk him into doing that for me. Any tips on the oil change: things to watch out for, things you'd do differently? Do you need a special wrench for the filter (like Lambos and Ferraris)?
I just noticed this. You need nothing special. The socket to get the oil filter cap is large. I don't remember the size, but it's pretty standard. Other than that, it's an aluminum panel with a bunch of bolts, a sump drain plug, dry sump drain plug, turbo lines (replace the O-rings) and button it up. I put in 5 quarts. Run the car for 10 mins and check the oil. It usually takes another 1.5-2.5 quarts after that. Just don't overfill it!!
