    Hi All-

Does the top half of the intake manifold have to come off to replace the fuel injectors? Or can it all be done with the airbox and everything else still on?

nothing needs to come off when the engine is on the bench.

in the car, it might be easier to pull the plenum and airbox

ps: the gasket has steel spacers at the bolts - don’t drop them down the intakes if you pull the plenum

Just start taking things apart you will be surprised how simple these things are, will give you a chance to give things a good cleaning. It's cheap therapy :)

Yes the upper intakes need to be removed. The thick black gasket beteween the upper and lower intakes has metal spacers there bolts go through - be very careful not to drop any of these into the lower intakes. Take care when removing the fuel lines, the plastic line-spacers will be brittle and likely break, so you may need to buy some new ones, I think Porsche and Mercedes also used these spacers so they are available. The injectors are retained into the lower intakes with a snap-ring. When pulling the injectors up and out, there is an aluminum bushing that may come out with it - so don't be too surprised. If you are replacing the injectors, hopefully you have the new brass types, as they do not corrode like the old steel ones. You will also need new O-Rings for the injectors, use some grease or petroleum jelly to lubricate the o-rings, and then carefully roll them onto the injectors.

Put tape over intakes after removal.
