    I wish it could happen soon! Unfortunately they are now selling everything as they want to drag money and money from everywhere. As my car was a particular one and at the time I had the possibility to talk directly with the Factory, I saw with my eyes (to be honest, maybe better saying with my son ones, that worked at Ferrari at those times…) everything and I can say that they still have ALL the production details about EVERY SINGLE 308 ever produced.

    Of course I trust you Alberto, but I don't understand why ( even with € or $ ) we can't get information about our car from factory.
    The first result is there is some "dealer" who claim that car in their showroom is the first of … the only like that or is fitted with ultra option that does never exist !
    Without "official" information how simple buyer can check ? What is the benefit to favor these fiddlers ???

    But they give you all what you want, if you pay. They don't anymore give you anly how many cars were built, the last/first one VIN number, ie. how many purple color units were produced as people uses that to increase their car value.

    Oh yes. The good ol' days, when everything was for free. At least for owners, who registered their car on their website. I just looked on my harddrive. There are 57 owners manuals, one could download once for free. From 250 GT or 512S (!) with a few pages till 260 pages (four languages) 360 Modena or even 430 (135 pages just one language)

    Or the homologation papers. Since books and manual bookbinding are are further hobby of mine, just for fun I downloaded and printed all those papers and made me books. It were so many, I had to manufacture two thick hardbound volumes :)

    I own ‘34329’ and she is a UK right hand drive car. Originally painted azzuro and finished with dark blue hide. The car was changed to red early on. A 2 year restoration of body and interior was completed by the Ferrari Centre mid last year and finished to my spec had I the chance of originally ordering a 308 GTB carb in period - Red with beige / black stripe.

    Ordered 1980 and delivered 1981.

    In addition to my own quoted post above;

    Even more BS occured in the M. Urban 'Serial no. book', where the mentioned cars among which are Alberto's and mine, are called 'post-production cars'. WTF??

    My guess is that it is mainly a question of potential liabilities. Imagine that you have just bought a car certified to you as "original" by the seller (For what this is worth, of course...we all know car salesmen...), and for which the factory sheets then show that she is not in her original color, the engine has been changed, etc...the factory doesn't want to get involved in such can of worms. Of course, there is also the question of making additional money with the information they have, but I would not be surprised if the potential liabilities are indeed the first hindrance to making this information public.
    The outcome is that we will never have a full complete list of all the 308s produced by chassis number, which is a pity because a number of cars will remain unknown for ever: those that has been destroyed, those that have been stolen and have disappeared without a trace, those that have been heavily modified (see for instance the poor carbed GTB with parts from all different variants that we discussed for ages on our french forum and that has now just resurfaced in Dubai...) etc...

    I completely agree with nerofer's statements... finding those missing 308 GTB chassis numbers becomes more and more difficult. Some people dream of a night with (fill in the name of your favourite here – let's say Salma Hayek, for example), I dream of one night alone with a digital camera in the Ferrari archive rooms instead :)

    Let me take the opportunity to thank nerofer publicly as one of the most valuable supporters of the Registry. And he's a great guy, too!

    Good catch, my friend! I noticed that as well – now it will be saved for eternity! ;)
