    Gentlemen,

    2007 F430

Just replaced my 6 year old battery with a later generation Interstate MTZ-34R AGM style battery...
    Works perfectly..!
Question: I get a strong feeling the original Ferrari CTEK 3300 that came with the vehicle may not be smart enough to maintain this new AGM battery in a healthy manner long term..
Had it plugged in and witnessed above battery voltages 13.9 to be exact but did not see the green light illuminated.
What are we using out there...?
    Thanks in Advance.!

    07 F430 OEM CTEK is equivalent of US 800 not a 3300
I think Ferrari switched to 3300 with the introduction of 458.
OE 3300 has been on my car for 4 years , it works fine with AGM batteries .

I purchased a CTEK 8-STAGE MUS 4.3 BATTERY CHARGER / MAINTAINER when my dealer installed a new Interstate battery in my 2003 360 Spider. I purchased it from Corvette Central, Sawyer, MI (don't laugh) for $86.95. It has worked great for over a year now and this charger/maintainer has all of the correct connections for my car. Plug in connector was easy to install in the Passenger footwell.

While some battery tenders have a special charging sequence for AGM batteries, it is not required to successfully maintain an AGM battery. In general terms, only gel cell and lithium-ion batteries have very specific charging requirements. Standard wet cell, and AGM are fine with the great majority of smart or microprocessor battery charger/tenders. Also, a lower amperage battery tender is actually better than a high amp version. Charging at a lower rate is easier on the battery and in my experience, you can achieve a higher state of charge with a lower amperage charge rate. So nothing wrong with using a 1 amp (or even 800 milliamp) battery tender over a 3 or 4 amp version. But all will work just fine. So for maintenance, such as plugging in after returning from a drive, the .8 amp tender might take an hour or more to reach full charge indication, versus the 3 or 4 amp my do so in less than 15 minutes.

Actually it isn't, but a common mistake by many. From the Optima (maker of the Red Top battery) website: "Under normal conditions most 12-volt automatic battery chargers will work on an AGM battery. Many newer battery chargers have settings specifically for AGM batteries"

I don't believe you actually read my post #9. As I stated, there are battery tenders with specific AGM charge settings, but they are NOT required by the AGM battery manufacturers, Optima included. Sure, there might be certain stated advantages by the charger and battery manufacturers to use an AGM specific battery tender, but again, the AGM manufacturers do not specifically require them, no would it be reason for warranty denial.

So back to the OPs original post, the factory Ferrari/Ctek charger is just fine for him to use with his AGM battery.

BTW, the Optima red top is a spiral wound AGM (absorbed glass mat), it specifically is not a gel battery, with gelled electrolyte

    Hey Guys,

Quick update: Reached out to CTEK and they claim it will support the AGM battery's...unfortunately that information came after I ordered a new one from Ebay.
I'll be sure to keep it as we all know it adds to the selling value of the car should I decide to ever do that..
    Thanks for the feedback.!
