One question that has not been answered; what platform is this super V8 built on? Maybe this is the 'restyled' 488 platform?

Doug23 mentioned F142M-FL previously as a possible model.

 

So this new car will be available to anyone or is it going to be like the Pista? Wonder how allocations will work on that. Hopefully current 488 owners will be on the top of the list.

 

During their Capital Markets Day 2018, they specified they'll be using the new architecture for their new generational cars.

In my opinion every new car (super V8, 488 replacement etc) will be based on the new modular platform, designed to accomodate hybrid systems.
F142M-FL will be the last chapter of the 458/488 architecture

 

Not me !!! i m crazy about mecanics, sound and historic heritage...not electricity and no sense engines !
I don t care about HP in legal roads...and such a cars aren t racing cars ...

 

The mirrors could not be the final ones, they will (and should) do everything possible to disguise the car.

 

So, what's this F142M-FL anyway?

 

The question is: in a world dominated by performances, track times and bragging rights, who will buy the 488 V6 replacement instread of the new V8 main player of the supercar/hypercar game?
Many people say they prefer driving pleasure on performances, but many more prefer to boast performances with friends. So, I think new V8 will be strictly limited number, otherwise almost nobody will just be content with the 498 V6

 

Your point seems to miss on the price differential which will probably be large ie small 488 v6 etc maybe 100 000 currency units less than large 488 v8 etc much like McLaren differentiate from 570 to 720 or Lambo so two different market segments

Wasn't Pista the Facelift? Having another facelift is ridiculous.

 

I think this new, level-above, rear mid-engine is the end of Ferrari residuals. 488 already showed signs of waning residuals compared to old ones. A ton of people are going to be moving up a level to this and demand for the 488 replacement will be significantly impacted.

There are just so many more entrants in the market. It wasn't that long ago that your choice were really just Ferrari or Lamborghini in the $200-300K segment. Now everyone is making cars.

Did you ever buy a Ferrari before 2015?
Depreciation was significant to say the least, I once (in year 2000) bought a FRF 1,000,000 (price new) testarossa for FRF 350,000 (about EUR 50,000). That same car has probably been valued up to EUR 150,000 two years ago, and now back to around EUR 100,000.
And a high mileage 458 can be bought today for about half its new price (for a better example you'd spend about 30% to 40% less than the price as new).

 

Forgive me if this has been discussed/answered previously (I'm sure).
So the 488 replacement is sticking with an aluminum chassis? In 2020? That just says it all, to me, about Ferrari.
When McLaren's entry level, $200k car has a full carbon tub, Ferrari is falling behind. They're aluminum chassis were good (for 2010/458), but 10 years later?

 

Every McLaren has the same tub & engine (with minor variations. I’m not sure any Ferrari owner is complaining that the cars don’t have carbon tubs. Unless it makes the car substantially better performance wise - I don’t really care. Carbon tubs have their own issues too

Design-wise, 488 to 488FL will be a smaller step than 458 to 488 ? Usually "face lift" means something bigger than a MY but softer than a proper "restyling"

 

So this would be the 488 replacement?

 

If the TTV8 as rumored goes upmarket this makes total sense guys. Let’s not forget Ferrari left loads of power in the table with the 488. Tuners were able to get 780 HP with relative ease from the 488 with stage 1 (?) tuning.
