Ya, I spoke to a guy that did it successfully but at about 20k and I guess there a few parts hard to find. So I buy an F1 at 100k, at some point spend 20k if I'm lucky enough to find the parts and then have it go under surgery and hope everything turns out ok. I'm at 120k. Then where is the value at because no one is going to want to buy a converted car. Spend another 10-20k and get one at 130 to 140 which they are out there and have better resale. I'm guessing that I would never "Want" to sell but may need to.... I just need more money, seems it always comes to that.....:rolleyes:

well, I respect your determination I & hope you find what you want ! I , myself have a long history of manual transmissions and have a very fast, rare 9-3 Saab Viggen 5 speed! ( i realize that seems an oxymoron - a fast Saab! LOL ) however, I have read extensively on the subject and now am the proud owner of an awesome 08' Ferrari F430 ( yes w/ an F1 trans ) ! myself, now that I have a few miles I can understand why the German Porsche engineers thought those who wanted a manual, ( mostly Americans ) as opposed to their superlative PDK automatic rather daft ! he mused why would someone want a transmission that gives slower lap times? accelerates slower? So far, the only thing I wish for is a set of the extended shift paddles! I see why they exist! being a wide-eyed Ferrari neophyte I'm glad i can keep Both hands on the wheel! ( another reason to go F1 trans! = safer ! ) As to converting to manual yea it would be work ! Lots of older guys are converting manual other fast cars to...................automatics due to bad knees etc ! LOL I disagree someone would hesitate to buy a converted to manual car if it was done to a factory ( or better ) standard it would be very desirable - to someone who, like you, wanted one ! I say, purists , be damned! maybe buy one for less than 100 K w/ more miles or ideally find one w/ a bad F1 trans !?? could be a bargain ?

Juts curious, with the price of the gated 430s are you tempted to consider a 458? Or is the paddle shift the absolute deal breaker?

I had a 458 for an entire day and it was a blast but I just feel more connected with the car being a manual. I'm sure a lot of people would think I'm crazy, but I would definitely take a gated 430 over a 458..
